Speed reading can be a valuable skill but one that many have really never completely mastered. I think to be a completely talented speed reader, you'll need to not only read quickly, but be able to comprehend everything. I think I'm about able to comprehend about sixty or so percent of what I read when I try and speed read. Most of the time when I read, I try to step back and digest everything a bit more leisurely, as am able to get the feel for what I am looking at.

Yeah there are times where people do read things rather fast, but they are not able to comprehend it. However, there are some that are able to absorb things at an astounding speed. It is important to understand that there are people who speed read and those are the people who comprehend. Those who read quickly and don't comprehend, are more skimming, them speed reading. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I am a certified book worm, but I don't really do speed reading when reading books. I prefer to take it slow to process the information and also to imagine the scenes. But I think speed reading would be important if you are studying for a long quiz or exam. But for entertainment and leisure I love to take it slow.

Many people do have their own reading styles I think. I think that there are many merits to a slow, more subdued reading process. Just like there are many merits to a speed reading process. Not to mention there are many merits to pretty much every reading style in between. I think that there are times where I need to adjust my reading habits as needed. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I think it's one of the skills that I have although I wouldn't say I have perfected it. Speed reading can really be handy especially when taking a time-pressured exam because you can finish reading directions or statements faster than others and therefore get to finish earlier. It is just as important to understand what you're reading though because all that speed will count for nothing if you also got nothing right

Very true, it does not really count for anything if you don't really get anything right. Therefore, if you are unable to comprehend it, then its really something that is just misplaced. After all, there are a lot of people who try and dance and they trip over to their feet. Therefore, one would say that while they attempted to do the act, they have not mastered the skill. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Indeed it is extremely useful. Providing of course you can completely focus on the situation. Which is an area that many do feel really are struggling it. Still if they are able to focus, it is really a great thing and they are able to get the most out of this skill. It is truly a great thing to behold. Thanks for your response. It is appreciated. Have a nice day.

I do a lot of speed reading for school, especially when I'm just reading in advance. For me, my comprehension depends on how interested I am in the topic. When I like the matter, I usually understand what the passage says. Also, I think speed reading can be very handy when you are looking for a specific topic.

Indeed, it can be very handy. Especially when you are in a crunch. If you find something, you can always make a mental note to go back to it later. That is really a great thing, you can use it to get the general idea of things, and then when you have the time, you can read things a bit more clearly. Therefore, you are able to really get the most of the information, using half of the amount of time. Its a great skill. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

It does seem extremely similar. Essentially speed readers are applying a form of a photographic memory. They are really looking at a lot of things, that they are going to really going to absorb in a lot of information more readily. So yes, indeed, they are pretty much extremely similar. You would be completely correct in saying that. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I think that its one of those tricky skills. Plus there is a lot of debate about what speed reading truly is. There is speed reading and there is skimming. Which tend to be two different things and many people that I've talked to think that those who don't pick up on the information are skimming, as opposed to speed reading. Then again, everyone has their own thoughts on this. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Generally for pleasure, I don't really read quickly. I say that there are exceptions, for every rule. However, there are times where I might not to digest information a bit more quickly. Therefore, I am going to really take a look at what I am going to read even more quickly. It is a useful skill that might serve people well. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I have been reading since my childhood and that has helped me develop a fast reading speed. I agree with the point that besides speed one also required to have the power of grasping what they read. I guess for me it depends on the topic that I am reading. If it's an interesting one then I grasp more than other times.

It can in fact depend on the topic. If I'm reading something that I would not really be that big of a fan of, then its going to be very tricky for me to grasp the situation completely. However, if its something that I really enjoy, then it's going to really be something that may in fact sink in far better than you could ever imagine. Regardless, the skill is very useful to have and one that is beneficial, if its mastered correctly. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I have been reading since I was very young, and before that my mother always read to me. I love reading, so I don't know if that has anything to do with my speed reading or not. I do think it has to be something that you enjoy to do before you can start to really be able to work on reading quicker. Hope you get to where you can do the speed reading like you want!

I think I'm at a good place right now. However, I think that its always a healthy attitude that I can do a little bit better. Of course, its not something I'm about to lose any sleep over. Still its a beneficial skill for one to have, as time can be a bit shorter than we'd like. Very good to have, very good indeed. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.
