hi friends. while listening to commentary the other day,i heard one commentator say that reverse sweeps were invented by the british because they have only limited shots to play. i dont know how true is that. when i see some players botha,de villiers do it,i found it entertaining but when class players like sachin, dravid and big hitters like uthappa, pollard,i started to wonder whats happening here? people like sachin, dravid pretty much played all shots in the book with elegance in their long career.it makes me wonder why they have to resort to a shot like reverse sweep which makes you look like a complete idiot hen you miss. it gets even worse when uthappa, pollard who can clear boundary with ease played these shots and got out. is reverse sweep is just an entertaining shot? a late cut produces even better results.

I feel better because playing regular same shots needs to bring some changes sometimes else it becomes difficult to score runs. So, some changes are mandatory in this case. But while you are playing good, don't need to play reserve sweep as it is a risky shot as well. You may regret for playing but while you face troubles scoring runs quickly you may opt for it. Basically many players avoid it because they believe in regular shots because they practice it many times than reverse sweep. Plus you need correct timings, proper ball selection and so on. Else it may cost your valuable wicket.

Yeah, you are right. Late cut is much more effective than reverse sweep. The chances of getting caught out or bowled or LBW are more when compared to late cut. But some players take chance to reverse sweep the ball when the fielder is up in short fine leg. They only succeed 5 out of 10 shots played & they get out 3 out of 5 shots attempted. We have seen sometimes players clearing the third man boundary too. Late cut shot is classy, effective & produces better results than reverse sweep.

surely players like sachin and dravid can play all kinds of shots.but in IPL they are forced to score runs quickly so thats why they are forced to play shots like reverse sweep which had more risk than late cut. you may feel that late cut will be more effective in runs but its not the thinking in the minds of sachin and dravid thats why they play reverse sweep. but I like all kinds of shots in cricket, specially when its executed by Sachin.
