My family and I are headed to Scottsdale, Arizona for a week in July (I know, hot, hot, hot ). It is our first trip to Arizona. We will be driving to the Grand Canyon, of course, but besides that, any travel tips for things to do with boys (8 and 10 years old). We love the outdoors, and also museums, historical sites--pretty much anything goes. If anyone has some "must see" places in and around Scottsdale/Phoenix, I would love to hear about them!

If you get close to Jerome or Sedona...well that is two places you should miss. Also we went last year to Talisan..Frank Lloyd Wrights winter school.....that was so interesting! It's right outside Phoenix! It's well worth seeing. I would go again.

Thanks! We will definitely check out the Frank Lloyd Wright site. We have been to Falling Water and his studio outside Chicago and found both to be fascinating.

The AZ tourist Department has some guides for day trip around Phoenix and Tuscon. There is also the Casas Granada Ruins between Tuscon and Phoenix. Senora is also a very beautiful place to visit.

It is lovely that you have booked your trip to Arizona. I haven't yet been to the Grand Canyon but I hear that it is awesome. I travel with my children and so know amusement on a long journey is necessary. You could have a day visiting musems and art galleries. Another day you could have a picnic in a shady stop. You might liken to take plenty of water to drink because the weather will be hot. I hope that you will have a fantastic time.

Yes, we will have a ton of water, and will spend the hot part of most days either indoors or swimming. It should be loads of fun! Where are you going on your next adventure?
