Random Acts of Kindness -What do you do to put a smile on the face of others?

There are big things we can do to help others and there are little things we can do to help others or make others happy. It's nice to simply be able to put a smile on someone's face. What are some random acts of kindness that you have done recently or in the past? What else do you do to make others happy? Do you ever have trouble putting others first or do you think it just comes naturally to you?

Hi Suzzette I am a very giving and caring person by nature, so I have a tendency without any presumptions of always being helpful. I am one that although I can have a great deal going on in my life I have been always known to walk around with a smile at all times. It is amazing what a smile can do for anyone. I see it like most babies that we encounter outdoors where you look at them and they look back you smile and they eventually smile. Therefore a Good Day and how are you can certainly spark up smiles on most people I encounter with. My caring and giving nature is something that come naturally.

My most sincerest goal here on myLot is to continue to help many succeed here and in that process create some wonderful lasting friendships. I would like to look back four and or more years and still see the same wonderful members. Though many of us would probably get busy offline from time to time to pop into a box and say Hi - with the wonderful emoticon.

That's very true! Just a smile can go a very long way with others. There is this older gentleman that comes in to my pizza shop I work at to get a slice about once a week. And his face always lights up when he seems me walk in the door. Or walk out front after being in the back. He says he loves my smile and it just makes his day. I am very kind to him and to me, it's easy, not forced at all. He jsut seems like a very nice older gentleman who makes me laugh and I love talking with him. But he always says, "Oh, good. There's my smiley girl". hardworkinggurl - I agree with that, too! You are a very helpful person and very thankful for your kindness here in MyLot!

I found a long time ago that a "please" and "thank you" with a smile to anyone that is helping you only doing his/her job makes a big difference. Many people work with bored faces and they seem very unhappy. People ask of thwem what they need as if they were anwering machines. I smile, look at their eyes and say "please" and "thank you". They are surprised most of the time and then they smile warmly back. I love that. It´s not hard at all and you get more feedback than what you give.

I often wonder why people are so uncaring! It is not that hard to be polite! And everyone of us responds well to kindness so that your payback is immediate. Wouldn´t it be nice to work at food servic in a place who had a poster by the door saying "walk in smiling or don´t come here at all" Do teach your child the importance of that.

Yes! That is so true! Sometimes, that's all people need to hear. I wish it were more common practice to be polite. You sound very kind, especially to be sympathetic to others in who work with the public. I work in food service right now, while I am finishing college and stay home with my son during the day. I feel it is OUR job to be pleasant and kind. I try to always be very friendly and always smile at the customer. But it makes a huge difference when the customer is very nice. Not that common, I must say. I love my customers who are kind and respectful and do not look down at us for working in food service. I used to work in office and do bookkeeping and administrative work before I had my son. Financially, it did not make sense for us to pay for daycare, though, just so I could work during the day. This is why we made the decision for me to work a couple nights a week and my husband is home with him at night. But so many people come in and can be very rude and condenscending in the way they treat you. So a big thank you to YOU! And thank you for your comments!

I would do whatever i could for a smile on the face of someone else. it is the small gestures that can mean so much to us in our lives. A random act of kindness is sometimes all that we need.

That's just it! Just like you said - small gestues mean the most! It's not hte friend who goes out buys you diamond earrings for your birthday...it's the little things in life that mean the most.

Hi Suzette: My recent acts to put a smile on someone and make her feel happy was hugging my mom and telling her that I love her. I also tell a joke to a work mate yesterday while we talk. There are some easy ways to make a person feel happy. ALVARO

That is so sweet. From a mom's perspective , there is nothing like a hug from your son! It brings me more happiness than anything in this world! Jokes are also a good way to make others smile!

I find out work like sending courier and give to my watchman or his wife and pay them Rs.10 ($0.2) occasionally. I volunteer to clarify the doubts of students on banking, maths etc, when they send email. I cut out waste papers into convenient slips and put them in our temples in mylapore, chennai. Whenever possible I get work assignments for people known to me so that they get paid.

sometimes i think being nice is the same as being polite. 2 days ago i picked up an elderly lady's trolly that had fallen to the ground. she had a big smile on her face and told me i was a "kind gentleman". that puzzled me as i was only being polite. perhaps it is more of a condemnation of todays society that the act of kindness was received with surprise rather than an every day act. manners and politeness cost nothing but bring happiness. perhaps we could all smile a bit more if people recaptured that quintessential belief.

Yes, I agree. I believe kindness and politeness go hand-in-hand. I never really thought of it the way you have stated, but you are absolutely right. Many people in our society today are not polite and lack mush respect for others. When you do something nice (or polite rather) for someone, it is truly a surprise. However it is that we are able to make others smile, lets continue to do so! :-) I enjoy making others smile.
