John and Kate Plus Eight

Have you watched the show John and Kate Plus Eight? It is a reality show that follows a family of sextuplets and twins. I just started watching it and I've been going through several episodes a day. If you've seen it, what do you think of their parenting? I think they've been great parents and it's sad that they've broken up. One thing that bothered me though, is that they would separate girls and boys into different activities like golfing and cooking. I know that it is more convenient to do that because there are so many children, but it is also a bit sexist when one boy wants to cook with the girls but he's not allowed to because he is a boy.

I live in England and can't get American television. Sometimes I can see some American programs if they are easy to access on the Internet like Nanny 911. I think that the program 'John and Kate Plus Eight' sounds very interesting. It is a shame when parents split up. I believe boys can enjoy cooking and girls can enjoy football. The children should be able to choose any of the available activities.

yeah, it a pretty funny, heart warming show, at least until the breakup. It's kind of upsetting to see parents so strict about gendering their children.. after taking so many sociology classes about sexism, I think parents need to lay off on saying things like "boys do this" and "girls do that".

I agree with you. I the children should not be forced to do just boy activities or girl activities. It is more convenient as you stated. However, it an unfair practice. They could've easily allowed the children to take turn with each activity. One day they could cook and next day play golf. You know what I mean. I never watched the show. But I've seen plenty of previews and it is sad that they are divorced now. The show may have impacted their outcome, unfortunately. Now the children will suffer by not having both parents and the older they get the more they will understand what happen. It's a very SAD situation for those children. Best Wishes!

yea it is sad for them, but at least they have each other. Support from 7 other kids is a lot, so I think they will manage.

I used to watch the show myself. It can be a bit sexist but it's what works for the family. We only get to see an hour of the show that's recorded. There's no telling what is going on for the other hundered and something hours left that we dont get to watch. As they get older I'm sure they will show them different things. I think it's unfair that they only show them not allowing to do certian things because they are a boy or a girl but as I said we only see an hour of their life at a time. Over all it's a pretty decent show. By far not my favoriate.

that's a good point, tv shows usually focus on conflicts so it's likely that the parenting isn't so harsh for most of the time that we don't see on tv.

The show was better when the kids were little. John and Kate started arguing all the time and you could tell the stress was getting to the kids. She was also a perfectionist and when you have that many kids that won't work. I saw their breakup coming.

I liked the earlier seasons as well, it gets boring after the first couple seasons.

I saw many shows of Jon and Kate plus 8 before the divorce. I really loved watching the kids grow up. There has been a lot of criticism of Kate, but I say give her a break..Good grief, 8 kids?? That is not at all easy. She coped well. I think Jon is a creep for leaving..these are his kids too. He should have stayed and worked things out.

That woman does not care about her children. She is selfish and is only looking to become famous. Do yourself a favor and don't watch that show anymore.

I wouldn't go to that assumption, I don't know how she has turned out now because I've only seen the first few seasons, but at least in the beginning she did seem to care very much for her children. She was just a bit too controlling.
