Is there any such thing as an ergonomically-designed desk? I know there are chairs (mine is basic, not great for my back) but I was wondering about desks.
To me, they seem to be a bit of an afterthought and they vary wildly in price, depending on the type of wood it's made of or if it is constucted in shatter-proof glass.
Mine is made of fake wood as it was extremely cheap. I bought it from Comet in 2001 when I spent most of my money on the actual computer lol. However, desks aren't exactly aesthetically pleasing are they? I can get half of my feet underneath it but the next one I get will definitely have more room for my legs to fit under, like I used to at work.
Posture-wise..er, not great. I am sat up straight typing at the moment but - general browsing, I tend to lean or rest my head on my free hand and use the mouse with my other one. The screen itself is 20" though which helps to see it better lol. The keyboard is the best one I've had, a wireless Microsoft 800 and this helps too as wires are no longer in the way.
I know that most people have laptops now so this question applies to you too. How comfortable are you actually using your computer? Where is it situated..on a desk like mine, on your lap or do you lie on the floor and type there?
I'm interested to know!

I am not sure id there are ergonomically designed desks, but I think there are. If I were you I would try looking for a desk like that maybe in Ikea. They seem to have some odd and modern type furniture. Or you could try office depot or staples. I know that desks being the last thought. I also know that some desks can be costly. I think they also make like easy chairs that are ergonomically inclined. Meaning that they accommodate laptops and or keyboards. I know that comfort is very important when you're on the computer. I have a basic wood desk with a glass top, nice as it is and as big as it is, I get uncomfortable sitting at it. I am waiting for 3D smart TV's to become the normal. That way I can sit on my sofa and surf the web.

My in-laws want to buy us a TV in November when my FIL retires. We have our eyes set on a Smart TV. If I beat you to it, so to speak, in acquiring one, I shall let you know what it's like.
Do you think I'd be able to connect it wirelessly to my computer which is at the other end of the room (about 20ft)?

I have a keyboard tray, to put the keyboard at a better level for my back/shoulders/wrists.
I also have an ergonomic keyboard, that is better for my hands and wrists.
I think the two together help keep me from having more trouble with my wrists than I already have...

Awww..good for you.
I used a Microsoft ergonomic keyboard in 2007 in the workplace. At first I didn't like the strange shape, but once I got used to it I liked it a lot. Unfortunately, it would take up far too much room on my own desk at home but this new wireless one I have has a really good design and I reckon it's the best one I've had so far.

My laptop is on a stool in front of me, and I'm sat on a bench seat pulled out of my van. It means that I have to lean forward to type, with my elbows resting on my knees. It's probably not the most sensible position for any period of time, but i tend to be on the computer for short bursts.

Well actually I sit on a foot stool and type with the laptop on the bed. Because that is the only furniture I own, where I live to work. At home, I havea desk and a straight-backed chair. My posture can't go wrong even if I want it to. At the place of work, we have decent furniture, but somehow the bosses in a factory have this hatred towards anything comfortable. The thinking is, egronomically designed stuff is comfortable, and people do not work when they get comfortable.

You're probably right there! I've seen a couple of workstations that my hubby has used in the workplace and they're not the greatest!

Your equipment of computer puts mine to shame.I put my desktop computer, produced in 2005,on an ordinary desk ,and put a wooden box under the computer base, keep me slightly looking up at the screen, in case the playing computer should make my cervical spondylosis condition worsened in the course of time.

Awww, I hope you're ok.
I guess a laptop computer would be worse I take it? All that leaning over wouldn't be good for your posture either. I've actually noticed desktop computers are harder to get hold of now as laptops have taken them over in popularity. I prefer desktops because I've been able to acquire a 20" monitor, something that probably doesn't exist with laptops.
My previous Sony lasted 9 years so fingers crossed this Compaq will too!
