The country's capital is Skopje, with 506,926 inhabitants according to a 2002 census. Other cities include Bitola, Kumanovo , Prilep, Tetovo, Ohrid, Stip, Strumica ,Krusevo, Makedonski Brod, veles, Kavadarci...It has more than 50 lakes and sixteen mountains higher than 2,000 m (6,562 ft). Macedonia is a member of the UN and the Council of Europe. Since December 2005 it has also been a candidate for joining the European Union and has applied for nato membership.

It is a shame that I have not yet been to Macedonia on my European travels. I also haven't yet been to Bosnia and Serbia. In 2003 I traveled to Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia. I traveled to Bulgaria and Romania in 2006. I usually rush off to long haul destinations these days.

Hi taneli and welcome to myLot!
Thank you for all this information concerning your country! I have never been there but I live in Italy and it is not too far away, so who knows that one day it will be one of the places that I will get to see.
Many of your fellow countrymen are now working in Italy and I have met several of them. Do they move there in search of a job because there is a work/job crisis in your country too or is it just because they are attracted to Italy?
