Does the Internet have the capacity to help bring the world together?

I believe the Internet has the capacity to bring people of the world together toward understanding each others' cultures, lifestyles, and other social standards. We can now communicate with many people in many places; and we can share our experiences and philosophies. Can such freedom of interaction help to unite us as a "global family"? I think it can. What do you think?

I know that I have communicated with people in other countries that I would not have been able to without the internet. I see your point but I also think that just because we are able to communicate it does not necessarily mean that we will agree on things and therefore "unite" however.

Thanks for your input. I love the thought that I can communicate and share with people everywhere, in spite of different governments, cultures, etc. I believe enough sharing will automatically bring us closer and closer together; and maybe we'll all learn how important it really is that we all strive for peace and harmony instead of opposite attitudes. Thanks again.
