Hey there, If you're using it for video editing and Photoshop, I'd recommend at least: - 1gb RAM, I can run Adobe After Affects as well as FL Studio 10 at the same time with 1gb RAM. - 2.8 ghz processing power - A decent amount of hard drive space if you're video editing, at least 160gb - you can store clips on an external That's it in simple words. Hope this helps, Sam

Thanks Sam, I appreciate your help, but I already have a desktop with the spec you have mentioned and I am not that satisfied with its performance. I would need to use Windows 7 as an OS upgrade so that means I would require lot of RAM.

I run Windows 7 ultimate on those specs with no let down whatsoever. Try downloading a computer care program that gets rid of all your unnecessary files, I'd recommend CCleaner, or advanced system care. If you still aren't satisfied it would be ideal to upgrade.

Well depends on what you load on FL10. If you use 9 or 10 vst, u need more ram.

For video-editing and image processing tasks, you need a rig with lots of RAM, possibly a minimum of 4G. A proper video graphics card would also boost your productivity a lot, and I would recommend no less than an NVidia 9500GT. You would also need a hard drive with more capacity, as video editing tasks eat lots of hard drive space. The primary reason for my suggestion is simply to overcome one flaw of any Windows system when it comes to consumption and management of system resources once your computer starts. With some tweaking, you could make Windows perform faster but that requires an in-depth technical knowledge of how the OS works. Otherwise, you can never go wrong with a Mac for multimedia-related tasks. :D

Well, I've recommend it because most desktop publishing companies from where I come from use Mac over PCs for resource-intensive computer chores such as video editing, image processing and even audio processing. In my opinion, it's mostly because OSX manages system resources better than Windows does. You could leave a Mac running continuously for days and its performance is consistent, unlike with Windows which easily gets sluggish overtime. My boss' Macbook has not been reformatted for three (3) years now compared to my PC which I tend to reformat every year :D

Thanks for your info bumslayer(lol!! thats one funny name!!!) anyway coming to the point, I wasnt considering a Mac but since you also recommend it, I need to know whats in Mac that makes it better than windows? I have known pro's using Mac. Why do most of them prefer Mac over an Alienware running windows OS?

Practically you can consider Pentium 1V but might settle for a dual core processor if the difference in price is not much.Inasmuch as you will be doing image and video editing, so you must really have a very good graphics card, one that runs about 500Mb to to 1Gb.Your memory card must be within the range of 1Gb and above. To sum it up: Pentium 1V 3GHz or dual core Nvidia GeForce 6600 or GeForce 590(for dual core) 1gb and above RAM
