Hey all how is it going? Well this is my second discussion on combat training. In this discussion I am going to discuss two things. The first thing that I will discuss it awareness. The second thing that I am going to discuss is The Three Ranges of Combat. Now to start off with the first part of this discussion I am going to discuss what awareness is. The different phases of awareness then lastly I am going to discuss how to increase awareness through a few exercises. Now awareness is not just being aware of your immediate surroundings but awareness is also being aware of your self. Now when it comes to awareness as well it does not mean that you have to know every single little detail like you don't have to know that there is a really tiny pebble next to the broken board that is leaning against the trash can. Now it is good to be aware of the broken board that is leaning against the trash can and be aware of the trash can itself. Not the little tiny pebble. Now being aware of the self does mean that you have be aware of every thought and every tiny foot step that you take. But being aware of your self you do need to be aware of like maybe your mad or upset or a little down. Being aware of your self does mean being aware of what kind of thoughts that you are thinking and whether they are harmful to you and others or not. Now lets go into the different phases of awareness. Now because this is a discussion on combat we are only going to apply the four phases of awareness to combat training. Now there are a total of four phases of awareness. Now to represent these four phases of awareness we are going to use the four colors white, yellow, red, and black. Now lets start off with the first phase which is the color white. Now when we are in the white phase we are in the phase of awareness that is the least threatening and the least risk of getting harmed or having to harm someone else. Now this phase of awareness usually occurs when we are amongst friends and family or when we are alone, or walking down the street by our selves or something similar. An example of this would be like if you went to visit your grandmother. No offense to your grand mother or anything but she is probably really old and unable to physically hurt you. So there is no threat there. Now the second phase which is the yellow phase is the phase of awareness where even though you are mostly in no danger there is something that could turn in to a danger and that might cause you to get hurt or have to hurt someone else. Now when it comes to this phase it is time to be a little bit more aware of your physical surroundings and as well of all the people who are around you. Now one thing that I am going to state before I go any further is that you should always pay attention to your gut feeling and the queasyness that comes along with. But as well you should also be paying more attention to your gut instinct. It can save you more than you know. Now an example of this would be that if you were going to visit a friend and when you get there, there is someone there that you never met before and he might look kind of suspicious. So there fore you want to be a little bit more aware of what is going on around you. Now for the third phase which is the red phase That is definitely start being aware of where you are at and what and who is around you. This is also the phase of awareness in which there is a very likely possibility that you will have to fight someone and run the risk of getting or having to hurt the other person. An example of this would be if you are hanging out with the same friend and and the person that you never met before is start to become threatening and belligerent and starting to get physical like getting in your face or knocking stuff over. That is the third phase of awareness. Now for the last phase of awareness which is the black phase. Now this is the phase in which you have to be aware of your surroundings and as well this is the phase in which you have only a few choices and those are fight or flight. If you choose to fight then you will not be able to avoid getting hurt or hurting the person who is attacking you. An example of this would be same thing you are at a friends house and the unknown person continues to get worse but this time he starts trying to physically attack you. Now once again I am going to state that you should always be aware of your gut instinct and use it as apart of your awareness. Now I am going to discuss a few exercises that you can do to increase your awareness. Now for this first exercise it will be done inside your room and this one will work for developing awareness of sounds that are around you. Now what you need is a blind fold and obviously sounds. Now what I would suggest is that inside your room you use like an mp3 player with the headphones in turned to a medium-loud level, as well I would say a tv or something of the sort turned to a medium level of volume as well. Now what you do is you put on the blindfold so that you can not see. Then turn on your mp3 player and put it in a different part of the room now turn on your tv and what I want you to do is become aware of the sound of the tv first then after a moment or two become aware of the sound of the mp3 player. Now use the awareness of these two for a few minutes and then work on becoming aware of sounds outside of your room like the hallway or the bird that is in the tree outside your window etc.. Now practice this for awhile and then do this in different areas outside your room. Now for the second exercise this one you can do while you are walking down the street. Now this is very basic what you do while you are walking down the street every once in a while with out moving your head look over to your right and then look over to your left. Now do this for a while and then this as you are looking to your left and looking to your right slightly turn your head so that you can see behind you but try to mostly use your peripheral vision. Now if you train with this exercise not only will your awareness in but so will the ability to use your peripheral vision as well. Well I hope that you enjoyed this discussion and I hope that you read further discussions as well.
