Latest News On John's Leg

I have in front of me a box of Flucloxacillin Capsules that will last John a week. They have penicillin in them and he has to take one four times a day for one week. http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/infections/medicines/100002910.html Also, he has some Eumovate Cream which is steroidal and John says he will "do the 100 metres in under 10 seconds on this" lol. This is used to reduce inflammation. http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100000982.html He has taken a much bigger tub of cream to work but I know it's emollient cream, similar to what eczema sufferers use. In fact, Mum has some to treat her neck that comes out in a red-raw mess if she wears a perfume she is allergic to. Now, John was told what is wrong with his leg "but the Nurse said it really fast so I don't know what it is." However, he did tell her the full story about how this small scratch on his leg ended up covering the WHOLE of the bottom part of his leg. Basically, he's not been able to stop scratching it when it itches, which is why it has spread. The area itself has become infected and he has to go back there in a week. The nurse took a photograph of his leg so she can compare that with his next visit, so, hopefully, the combination of drugs and creams will do the trick. He really shouldn't have let it get to this stage but at least his leg isn't going to drop off anytime soon. I told him that if it does he can donate it to medical science!

I hope the infection subsides. It seems, from what you say that it is a mixture of ailments agravated by scratching. But I do know how difficult it is to stay away from itching places as I have psoriasis. Take care!

He worked long hours today and hasn't been home long so I asked him about his leg and he told me the cream is stopping him from scratching, so that's a relief.

sounds like it could be eczema, but he probably is familiar with that one, I wonder if it is cellulitis or impetigo, maybe the latter because it isn't as familiar sounding a name... I had cellulitis in my right earlobe after I graduated from college... OMG but that HURT! (and itched) but hurt when I tried to scratch it!!!

I have had impetigo on my face (lips mainly) in the past and it hurt sooo much, it was horrible. I refused to go out and in fact was banned from doing so as it's highly contagious. I doubt John has impetigo but he may well have dermatitis. It's frustrating that we still don't know isn't it but I'll make sure he asks the nurse to write it down next week.

That's the first step on the route back to health, so I'm sure that's a weight off your mind.

Hi, Janey....He should have received a written care plan. The diagnosis will be on that. Or should be, anyway. I would be interested to know what it is. I hope he is faithful with taking the prescribed medication for the full length of time that is recommendes. Some people stop their meds when they think they're better instead of taking the full amount. Emollient cream won't help it a bit and may actually do harm by spreading the infection with each smear he makes. Please advise him not to do that.

Hi there, Was hoping to know what it was, but okay next visit have the nurse write it down. Only saying because you will want to make sure it does not come back and or get re-infected later and this way you will know how to get it treated. I am glad though that it sounds like he will get some relief soon.

Sometimes the itch is more unbearable than pain.No wonder John got a lot of scratches in the right leg. This sort of skin disease has something to do with allergic constitutions. You must find out anaphylactogen such as seafood, medicine.

Good to hear the situation is being treated, if not yet under control.
