Hello everybody, I wanted to edit an older doc file in Microsoft Office Word 2003 and I couldn't add a column inside a table because I haven't found the 'Table' menu. I tried the Help from Word but it couldn't help me at all. It only says to go to the 'Table' menu and to click on 'Insert' - 'Columns'. But how to do that if you don't have the 'Table' menu???? Can anybody help me with this problem, please?

Hello Octav, The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I was like crazy without the Table menu! Because the contextual menu is not enough for all the things we want to do in a table. I checked for an on-line solution, because the help offered by Word's Help function was futile. Here is what I found: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541 You should solve your problem by either changing your registry or by removing the old normal.dot and creating a new one. For me, the second variant worked. I renamed the old normal.dog and Word created a new one for me. And guess what? My loved 'Table' menu was back at its place again! If this doesn't work for you and you need to change the registry, make sure you save them before making any change there. I wish you good luck!

Thank you, my friend! The second variant worked for me, too. I think a colleague gave me a normal.dot file a few weeks ago and this must have been the reason. Now I have to save the changes in the new normal.dot again, but at least I got my Table menu back. Thanks again, God bless you!

Don't forget that the quick solution, if your normal.dot is messed up, is to close Word and delete normal.dot. When you re-open Word, it creates a new one with all the factory defaults. This trick is also useful if you do work for other people who have a standard normal.dot which is different from the default. Just keep a copy of the various normal.dot's in a folder somewhere where Word doesn't look and copy the relevant one into the right place before starting a session (you just have to remember whose file you last loaded!). I know people who have created batch files to do this which makes life very simple and organised.

I'm glad that I could help you. I was desperate myself when I found my Table menu missing. I haven't known that normal.dot can mess up things, so I first tried the registry changes methods. Of course none of them worked, so I tried the last one. I knew that Word creates a new normal.dot if I delete the old one but I didn't have any idea that the missing menu could have such a reason.
