There is no universal style of writing.

Despite what the educational system would like to tell you, writing is something that cannot be shoehorned into a simple style. It is versatile and rather adaptable, with everyone bringing their unique perspective. Some people write from beginning to end and then go back editing. Some people write the end and then work backwards. Other people write bits and pieces along the way, trying to stitch it together along the way, filling in the blanks. Regardless, there is no wrong way to write, there is no right to write, the only limit is your own creativity.

Writing is creativity. Controlling creativity is limiting it. I think even in the most closed of countries where gag is/was a norm rather than an exception, creativity can't be controlled. As a journalist and as a writer, I have found that I have written different things in different manners, and most of the results, if not all have pleased me, and I have got a lot of kudos from my employers, as well as from people who have had a glimpse of the novel that I am currently writing. Though the styles are different, most people say that they can recognize the 'me' in every one of the pieces that I have done. I guess writing in different styles doesn't conceal the individuality of the writer from an expert or the knowledgeable discerning reader.

People have tried to squash and discourage attempts to write outside the box. Through means that are very subtle and not so subtle. However, in the end, its rather difficult to really make everyone fit inside one particular box. There are going to be people that are going to find ways to breakout. Just because these people learned that way, does not mean it is the right way. It can be a right way, and perhaps it will work well for some people. In the end, its very hard to fight true creativity and its going to shine through. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Hi megamatt... You're quite right. I am a moderator of our school publication and I could tell the writer of an article even before I read the byline just by reading the article. It is one's personality that gets manifested in the way an article is written. The principles may be universal but it is the unique personality of the writer which makes an article interesting, as people are interesting. Have a nice day ahead, megamatt.

People give personality through their writing for sure. I mean when you think about it, a lot of people tend to put in a lot of work. In reality, they are pouring a lot of themselves in the article. When you become rather familiar with their style of writing, there are certain things in general that tells you who's writing it. Now a good writer might be able to switch things up now and again, but its not going to be a full scale transition. Rather it is just something that is an extension of the personality. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

i definitely agree with you with this one megamatt. i had a part-time job as a content writer for a website before and i found that i write differently from the rest of writers they had in their pool. normally, i'll hear comments that writers usually have their trademarks in their articles and it was quite easy for our editors to guess who wrote which article. just a side note, for the benefit of equality and transparency and to avoid favoritism, we get a list of topics that will be featured in the site a week in advance and us writers are asked to submit our articles anonymously. the editors meet and agree upon which articles to publish and only then do they find out who wrote which. i kinda agree with how this system worked but it was kinda taxing sometimes. anyway, going back to the discussion, i've heard editors 'praise' (i know its a strong word, and i might come across as bragging here but...) my articles as they mentioned that my writing style varies from one article to another. for me, what influences me on how to write an article is really affected by how i want to treat it. sometimes, i go the narrative style, sometimes i go third person. regardless of how someone writes, it is beneficial for us to be exposed to these different writing styles. cheers!!!

There are many ways to write articles for sure. You make some very good points. There are a lot of tell tale signs about whot he writer is. There are just some little bits and pieces that tend to pop in, and a trained eye can really spot them. There will be times where writing will vary, mostly due to the tone that it is written in and obviously the subject matter. There is obviously going to be a difference of how I write about a more serious subject as opposed to a more offbeat and out there subject. Still, its very easy to find tell tale signs if you bother to look. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Different regions of the country or culture have their styles of introduction to writing. there is nor right or wrong way about it or is there a universal style. it is often your personality that guides the way you will write.

Very true, writing does vary the world over for sure. Or even in different parts of a single country. There are times where you are in one place and the way that you write is of good quality and then the other parts of the country, it is wrong, wrong all wrong. That is just one of those things where the way we learn and what culture mandates can and will play a huge part of what really matters, with writing and everything that goes along with it. In the end, we have to write in a way that we feel comfortable with writing. There will be some that will like it, there will be others that will not really like it. So be it, I guess. In reality, it would be rather boring if everyone's writing was exactly the same and everyone fell into an insane cookie cutter pattern. That is really an unfortunate little thing, when people tend to feel like they have to write a certain way. In the end, your own unique ways of writing define who you are. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

One could argue that 'math' is a language, and people would be able to use it as a universal type of writing.

Even math does have its own quirks from time to time. Granted, there are many rules with it. It is just the way that you get to the end result that tends to vary. There are many different problems that you can really get what would be considered to be a correct answer right away in a number of different ways. Writing is really the same way. Therefore, they are the same where generally speaking, they end up having a beginning, middle, and end but how you get from point to point, it can vary. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.
