Step by Step Procedure in creating a website

Hi experts of mylot, I need your advice. For how many years now, I've been blogging and I used blogspot as my platform. I don't think I am given good exposure. Is it better to have your own domain name? I am thinking of buying my own domain and starting my own website. I just don't know what happens next, especially now that I've invested something. What are the benefits of having my own domain? How do I upload articles after which? Do they have like ones in blogger where I can upload my articles?
