Is technology good for children?

I was thinking about how children grow up very differently today than I did. Children now use technology for entertainment like computers, television, video games, etc. They spend a lot more time inside than I did growing up. When I grew up, we spent most of the time outside because there was nothing to do inside. We had to use our imaginations and make up games. We climbed trees, played red rover, played with chalk, played kick the can, etc. We were forced to use our imaginations and make up games which helped develop creativity. I was wondering how children today will be affected and if they will suffer because they don't develop those creativity skills or if you think they will have an advantage because they develop different critical thinking skills? What is your opinion on how children grow up today and if you think they have an advantage or disadvantage over children who grew up in the past? Do you think children develop different skills than they did in the past, and if so which ones?

Yes, I agree- before, children get to play outside with their friends, which is more fun than just staring at the computer playing games and stuff. Computer does make people lazy sometimes and if not used well, it can also hinder kids from developing their skills. It would be nice if they also played with their friends and do some creativity projects once in a while..

Technology do plays an important role in our daily life now. So, it is hard not to introduce our children to this modern technology. Most important is, we as their parents should set the limits of time being spend in computer. Because too much watching computer will damaged their eyes. Besides that, they need to go playing outside of the house, so can have a healthy body as well.

I think they are way ahead because of technology..but there is a time and place for them to use their imaginations too...I told my oldest the same thing...make sure my granddaughter gets enough time to do arts etc to use her imagination instead of being plugged in all the time!

I think 99% every modern technology in this world have advantages and disadvantages both. This is our duty to introduce more and more our children to advantages and minimize the disadvantage by our effort.AND keep them away from the disadvantages by proper guidence because every indiviual have postive and negative thought ,it depend only on indiviual that which he want to support.

I firmly believe that spending too much time on computers, children are isolating themselves. They no longer feel that they need friends, they are spending too much time indoors lacking the extremely important vitamin A and many are shying away from sports because sitting by the PC does not increase endurance. But technology in today's world is so necessary and many of us use it as an unwinding tool.So I think it's the parent's responsibility to make sure the children get a normal and limited amount of time on the computer as well as playing with their friends and having some form of physical and extracurricular activities such as participating in a sport and/or learning a musical instrument.
