Broken links make me sad.

There is nothing more disheartening when I see an interesting link on a website and its something that gives me the dreaded "Page Cannot Be Displayed." Granted there are going to be times where this does slip through the cracks. However when half of the links are broken, then it might be about time for a sweep of the page to get rid of those old broken links or fix them. Sadly, not all of these pages are abandoned, and they are still updated, but the webmasters are too lazy.

True. Page cannot be displayed --on seeing this msg. if it is not an important site for us ok. But it it is a site where we have earned a few dollars and we expect it--then its disappearance may make me feel sad. What is wrong with this? --this feeling comes. But after a few hours once u get the same site you feel very happy, is it no. This is part of internet.

Indeed, a part of the Internet. And really not one of the better parts to say the least. Sometimes pages do go down for whatever reason. However, there are times where many do not really come back. That is really just one of those things about being online. There are a lot of times where a website can be here today and for whatever reason, the link that worked yesterday, might be down the next day, for any number of reasons. It is very agitating, but unfortunately a rather huge part of the Internet surfing process. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I did notice that with a few websites. They are not created to work so well on certain browsers. Which is pretty much the only reason why Internet Explorer is still being used on my computer. Still regardless, good to have a backup browser or two, if something goes wrong. Yeah, there are a few times where broken links can be caused just by the browser. Not that often but not all that rare either.

Excellent ! reply comment came as if it is a bullet. thanks. I know u mention about fly away sites that come to make money from the masses -- each person contributing small amount and making the owner a rich person. Interesting. People know it. Still they go to these. There are not better options visible probably.

Yeah that is a particularly annoying location for sure to have a broken link of any sort. I mean, at least I'm going to check it out, but you might not want me to check it out too badly a lot of the time. Therefore if you don't be mindful of those, you are going to just lose people. Of course, if you can't be bothered to keep your links right for a money earning websites, then I am not going to be able to take you all too seriously all things considered. So yeah that is a rather annoying place for the links to be broken. Not that there is a place where it is not a slight annoyance. But still in other areas, we can kind of justify the fact that mistakes happen and its not all that pressing. It is a much harder mess to swallow on money earning websites. I'm not sure we can trust them if those links are not taken seriously and trust me when I say that trust is everything when earning. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

so many sites do have the page where you can report broken links, but at times when the page has been completely removed and web owner is not aware of it it can still happen. Managing a website is a huge job so I just forgive the web owner and post him a reminder and leave it at that. Its not the question of being lazy just not having enough resources that leads to these kinds of mishaps.

Very true, many websites do have that page that you can report them. Or at least that contact information. At least a lot of them do. There are some websites that finding the proper contact information, well it can really be a chore and a half. There are many times where that is well hidden. Its almost like they don't want people to tell them when there is something that is wrong with their website. Actually, come to think of it, I would imagine that it is exactly like that. Still at least webmasters in many websites have made it easier for us give them the heads up in some cases. Many do not, but that's just much to do about nothing. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Sometimes it is only temporary or even a glitch. Sometimes just reloading that page will work. Sometimes it is a problem with the browser and going to a different browser will be enough for it to work. For example I mostly use IE but there is a site I go to everyday and suddenly it wouldn't work; so I tried Firefox and it worked just fine. Another time there was one that quit working on IE and wouldn't work on Firefox but works just fine with Chrome. It may not solve your problem, but it is something that might.

Sometimes its a technological problem for sure. Then other times, its the link either being copied wrong or the page being taken off of the Internet. There are a lot of websites that tend to act a bit erratic with certain Internet browsers for sure. It is just one of those things where something is going to happen for many reasons. Still there are times where the server is screwy, its not working right with the browser, but there are other times where its just a broken link that's no longer active and not coming back any time soon. And it can be considered poor website management. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Hi. megamatt. I can understand how you are feeling. When I see a message as this, I become disappointed. Most of the time the webmaster will send me this link when it is broken and I can't see the webpage at all. I feel that the webmaster should keep their eyes out on these webpages so that they can know what is broken and what is working properly.

It is a good idea to take a sweep of the web page every once and a while. At least once a week. Just to make sure that everything is in really good order. Therefore, if for whatever reason, there are broken links, the webmaster can further investigate the issue. Whether fixing the link or removing it if its an external page, that is beyond their control. There is nothing like going to a useful links page and finding that half of the links are broken. It is very disheartening when this happens. Frustrates me beyond anything. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.
