This is the saddest news , which can prove the chinese's education's failure . I think the school, his parents and even the society's culture should responsible for this . Everybody need money , but we should make money through the right way which is inclusive selling personal's organ.

I don't think he is mentally sick. I would say that the agent/doctor that is wrong in doing the surgery for him without the consent of his parents as he is still a minor. If I were the parents, I would sue that agent.

a 17 years old kid can quite easily understand all things. They know what is right and wrong.? Or what is good or bad? He can take his decision by himself. But its better that a 17 year old kid should share and consult everything to his parents. He agree to sold his kidney knoINGLY, he did not told this to his parents, then ho his parents know all the thing, and i dont think that any parent can think that his 17 year child can sold his kidney.

I agree that he may be able to understand things, but when one is desperate for something, they tend to do whatever they can to achieve it. No doubt he is able to make decisions on his own but at the age of 17, he is still considered a minor and whatever serious things (like selling an organ part) still needs the consent of his parents. And even though he never consulted his parents about his decisions to sell his kidney, the agent would still have to get the parents' consent before conducting any surgery. Yes, the parents would have never thought that their son would do such a thing, maybe because they believe that these things would need their consent and they would have not known that there was an illegal agent doing such thing.

Hi! Yeah I saw this in the news on television and in the internet. I think this kid is nuts. He doesn't realize the importance of having two kidneys. I am sure he will be sorry for this in the future. What if one of his family members needed the kidney? Then he will no longer be able to donate. What if his own kidney fails? Then he will be the one needing the kidney. That kid will be sorry.

i can only say that may god forgive him and let him not face any terrible conditions more in future. May he and his family forget it and live a happy life.

I haven't heard of that news, but that is so sad- it just proves how kids are really desperate to buy their vices. He could have spent the money he got on more important things like school and money- but he spent it on gadgets. Losing a kidney is dangerous..

it is really sad that people do things like these, sell their organs just to have money. We have these body parts, because it is important and if we lose it, our life would be in danger..every little part is important.

I say that people do dumb things in every country. I wonder if he got a kidney discount when he bought the Ipad, and Laptop! LOL Its amazing to me how people will distroy themselves for technology that will be useless in a few years. The world is loosing it's sanity everyday.

I have read that news, and I feel so sad for the boy.I never oppose anyone to have something that he or she likes, but it's extremely wrong and graceless for a young guy to pay one kidney for a laptop and a new ipad-2!what a shamed thing!

I read this and I do not blame the teenager as much as I blame the person who did this to him. Kids can make mistakes and I wonder too how the parents didn't realize what was happening until it happened. Thankfully he survived the ordeal and came back home and with money anything could have happened to him and he might not have made it back. A lot responsibility lies on the hospital too for letting the operation done and now its denying responsibility , its head of the department and chairman should be sued and brought to justice. This a sad thing , the kid will realize it too late in life what he lost.

police tqy toFIND that agent who contact that kid. But unable to trace him. Moreover his number is also switched off. That shows he did it before a number of time. He is a criminal.

Oh my! This 17 year old boy was desperate to get a laptop and an i pad 2! He sounded quite poor so didn't have enough cash to obtain what he really wanted. I think that his parents would be horrified if they knew. Selling a kidney and having an operation sounds really mad and stupid to me. I am ever so shocked reading about this event in China.

That is pretty ridiculous. I'm surprised the doctor's performed that surgery without the parent's consent. If it was here in the U.S. he wouldn't be allowed, thank goodness.

What a waste selling an organ for some electronic gadgets considering the danger of the surgery and having one kidney could have health implications in the future.I could understand if he used the money for something like education that could help him improve his life chances and maybe help him get out of poverty but instead he sold something irreplacable for technology that soon will be obsolete.

i think life of this gadget is 3years or maximum 4 years. But now he has to live with only 1kidney. It may limits his physical strenght or generates health issue in future. May God Bless Him

It is outrageous. Shows you how commercialism gets the better of people. Its stupid. He's gonna live the rest of his life with one less kidney now.

This is really one big madness in today's generation. They can't wait for what they want. They think parents give them immediately what they want without wasting time. But these types of children's not think how parents earn money for them. And how these children's waste those money in these unnecessary things. Really very sad.

today children copy each other. They want to have all those thing what their frnds have. They think it as being cool. They put a lot pressure on their parents not understanding the economic situation of their family. They are educated idiot . Dont they ?

The lure of technology is definitely griping on the younger generation. Especially the hype around digital products like iphone, ipad drives them crazy and they go to any extreme to get hold of it. This is one just tragic story.
• India

yes. In the light of digitalization, young generation do not see anything else. They ignore health, relationships, naturality.

I think this kid sold a kidney because he wanted to be like everyone else! He probaly has friends who all have an IPads and Laptops! He probaly got jealous and the only way to get what he wanted was to sell a kidney! That is why I think he sold this kidney! He not mentally sick. He is stupid and what is going to do if his only kidney decides not to work? Then what?

How very sad and tragic this is. Unfortunately it is also a commentary about how foolish we, as a world of people, have become. If he lives to regret this decision, it will be in a world of pain, I fear.

I did read about this news in our local newspaper. I were shocked and suspected this 17 year old boy who had a mental problem. Selling organs is illegal in my country and whoever tries to do so will face the legal issue. If he is a mature boy, he should understand that he can sell his kidney once only. Later, those machines which he bought will be outdated and he will not get back his kidney forever.

I haven't read it but how sad that kids feel they need these things. Evidently in China kids under 18 don't don't need parental consent?
