Cigarette smoking is banned or not allowed in public places. This is the mandate of the law through Republic Act 9211, otherwise known as the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003. Still there are some hard headed Filipinos who smoke in public places.

i'll remember this number 9211. it's sucks to ride a bus or jeep and find out that there's someone smoking inside. i've always wanted to bring a copy of this act whenever i go out. but i don't think people will care. they see the people who passed these types of acts who smoke, so why will they stop smoking? besides filipinos consider smoking a hobby. they consider it a stress-reliever and they don't care about what this does to the environment or to other people. or even to themselves.

There are some who really ignore this law and it is annoying. If we report them to the authorities, I am not sure if they will act on it immediately. Well, let us just hope and wish that this law will have a strict implementation.

i say lets throw these violators in jail if they are caught doing so. i do believe that we have enough laws here in our country to address a lot of concerns and situations but not enough political will to implement these. the law benefits the smokers and non-smokers so i see no reason why this shouldn't be strictly implemented. i don't smoke and i do have friends who smoke but basic courtesy suggest that smokers ask permission first if its ok to light up. however, not everyone has the common sense to do that. this law ensures that the rights of both smokers and non-smokers alike are respected.
