Hi guyz..! We all know that an old cellphone is something nobody wants to look at. Everyone wants a new branded cellphone, loaded with features. But there are some old ones, who may still please you, and sometimes, you may even end up buying them. The cost of course, being less than any new low-price phone, available in the market. Well, I generally avoid old cell-phones. But when my friend gave me an offer, I couldnt turn it down. He informed me that a friend of his is selling an old Nokia n-gage QD; which is specially designed for gaming experience. He asked me if I was interested. I was about to turn it down, but then I thought about my younger brother, who is about to enter high school. I thought he will certainly like the phone,... obviously...as he ain't got any. Plus he'll get a gaming phone; a perfect thing to spoil his grades... :p In my earlier post I did mention, "Gaming is a divine experience for we boys"..lolz (..and Zed knows it better; cuz he's really trying hard to anchor himself to his home.... :p).. So I decided to have it for my young brother... Yeah Yeah ... I know I am such a caring elder .. considering that I recently gave him a nice a** whipping, he'll never forget.... Now dont make me blush.. :p Haaahaha haaa... ahem ahemmm... where were we...? Oh! yes.... But this wasn't all; as the best part was yet to come... When I inquired about the price, I laughed out loud. The guy was charging only Rs.200, or about $4; and this gave me a feeling, that my buddy here was trying to pull my leg. But he insisted, that this "is" the bargain. To convince me further, he brought the cell to our college. The first thing I asked was- "Hey dude ! I dont want trouble.. Is this set stolen..??". And the next scene was me getting scolded by him.. :p He yelled, " what do you think I am.. a thief-market vendor.. ". And I had to surrender. :p When I asked about such a cheap price, he told me that the phone was kept for sale, long time back, but nobody was interested. So the owner decided to let it go for 200Rs, which was better than having it for next few more years.. :p Look.. I am not a miser, but to put it more frankly..I dont like spending on my brother... :p Still, I bought it for him, and had my brother have a look at it. Though I signed a deal with him, that the phone will be completely his, only if his grades improve this session, which I believe will take some time, cuz his exams are in august. Till then, I'll have it.. :p Guess, it turned out to be a good bargain for me. Or maybe not ... What you think... ?? This morning while I was having a look at its features and hardware (which I ought to before my brother, in case he does something stupid with it), I found an SD memory card inside its card slot, loaded with games and songs... And... there I was,... gladdddd... laughing and giggling at periodic intervals, as if some of my mainframe's wiring got short circuited.. :p

Hi himzey Wow now that is truly a deal you got there. I am sure your brother not having a cell that an old one will certainly feel like a new one to him and with gaming features too. Hmm I am wondering if by the time it is time to give it to him that perhaps you will not want to depart with it. lol Yes some old models are actually very useful and helpful because the new models now come with so many glitches. This I know as I am a cell phone geek, well I use to be, as I had to have all the latest brands. I may soon resort to an older model and be grateful I can have one if at all, but the fact that you are thinking about him and gifting him such a generous gift is very admirable. Good deal and I do hope he can escalate more with his grades as it is quite an incentive.

So that's where you were when I noticed you were missing here! Playing games on a phone that you bought for your kid brother, yeah, yeah I think you were wise to take up that offer. My cellphones are both from the ark. I bought them as a buy-one-get-one-free offer a few years back in a supermarket. They are both Nokia, both make and receive calls and text and - that's all! But heck, if I wanted to take a photo I buy a camera and if I want to listen to music I buy a radio don't I?. I needed a phone so I bought a phone! Well 2 actually!

Sounds logical and if one wants to condense and has the money to do so, then okay too. I might be going to a regular phone soon, though disheartening after having all the latest gadgets, at least I will have a phone and oh I have a camera too. lol

some people are that shallow that they care about other people seeing them with the latest phone, although it will be overpriced and out of date in a matter of months. I don't care. normal people aren't concerned about what sort of phone you have or if it's a new model. there's so much more important stuff in life than that.

hi himzey...very nice to know that u r such a caring person........ coming to your cell..be sure that its really in good condition..or else you will regret spending 200 too....it happens many times we fall prey to such deals and later regret .... i wish that you don't make a bad impression if u r gifting it.. if the set is really good and works for long..then u r really lucky to find this old piece..after all..it is rightly said..."Old is Gold" (not always)

Hi. himzey. Welcome to myLot! I am sure that your brother will enjoy his new cell phone. Even if it is old and used, he will still appreciate the fact that you gave him a cell phone to use. When my husband got tired of putting minutes on my cell phone that I had bought, he let me use his old Boost Mobile phone for almost a month or two. And, I used this phone and it started acting up, so he went and bought me a brand new cell phone. I really wanted a new cell phone at first, but I was glad that my husband was nice enough to let me use his old cell phone that, he used to use.

I thought at first that by cellphone you meant a satellite phone, which would have been a MASSIVE bargain, but I'd got my vocabulary wrong - AND I gather they're illegal in India without special licence, anyway. As regards the ordinary mobile phone, I've got good news and bad news (sorry, not a joke). The good news: At a police advisory visit to my workplace (on cycle security), one of them told me they still use the earliest Nokias, even though they're slightly more cumbersome, because they're the only ones really built to last. The bad news: Older mobile phones were manufactured before people were aware of the damage their radiation might cause, so might be more of a health hazard than the newer ones (this mightn't matter so much for police, who only use them for brief calls on the move). So if you can still get one of these filters that we used to stick on earpieces to protect a bit from radiation, you'll be doing your brother a favour - and it's no fun if he gets brain cancer and leaves you with a family to feed!

Hey John ! You are absolutely right regarding radiation hazards and the safety concerns. I'll definitely get its dummy changed, as it appears to be a bit damaged, and the filter too. Thanks for your concern.. :)

What an amazing deal you got. I hope the phone is not stolen , did you check for the original papers before buying as you should because if it has been used for anything illegal you may get caught. These days you can not be too careless. But it was a great if deal if everything was good. Your brother must be really glad of you thinking of him. He is lucky to have you as an elder brother.

Hi Mansha ! How thoughtful of you to be concerned about it. Thanks. :) And yes, I do have a receipt from the owner, as I dont have any "Mansha" to get in trouble.. ;) But even if it were stolen, it wouldn't have been a bother for me, because it doesn't have any tracker in it.. :p lolz
