What website do you recommend for selling books?

I'm moving soon and have a ton of books I need to get rid of- textbooks, novels, and everything in between. I normally sell my used textbooks on Amazon.com, but I'm getting tired of how large a percentage they take from my sale. I also won't use half.com anymore because they don't protect sellers from fraud and I've been cheated a couple times. I also don't want to do book swaps because then I end up with just as many books as I got rid of, which defeats the purpose. Can anyone recommend a good website for selling used books that doesn't take a huge commission?

Ebay has the same problem as half.com, because it's the same company. They don't protect sellers. I've never heard of iOffer before, so perhaps I'll check it out.

Hi gebesse, I've never heard of iOffer. Is it for international users? How does it work?

I'm having this problem too. I used to buy lots of books. Now I'm trying to be more "eco-friendly" and make it a point to borrow from the library instead. But I still have a lot of books already. Hubby is also an avid reader, thus we end up with lots and lots of books in our study room. There is really no space anymore and I'd want to get rid of them so I have space for other things. Will be watching your discussion closely for good suggestions!

I know what you mean! The collection just keeps growing and growing. Unfortunately, my local library system is really short on the kind of books I actually like to read, so they're not much help. So when I buy books, I get them secondhand to lower the environmental impact of so much paper.

What books are you interested in? How come they are not in the library? It must be exclusive! For me, I read a lot of books on financial planning, investments and savings, so there are tonnes of books on this topic, so I will never run out of books to read at the library. I hope gebesse can give us some idea on what iOffer is about.

I know you are asking about sites online for sell off your books. I don't know any sites for that, and I do not have the experience with that. But, I was in the same situation as you are now, some time back when I was moving to another city. I had a whole pile of books which I wanted to get rid off. I found a dealer in town who buys old books, any type, novels, dictionaries, text books, and so on. I sold off all my bookes to that dealer. So relieved. You might try that too !!

Why don't you do a search for 'sell books' and see what you come up with? I know there are quite a few out there. I think I bought from TextbooksRUs one time and they offered to sell some. I usually just swap. You've pretty much excluded yourself from most options I was going to mention. You're probably going to end up going with Amazon anyway and just taking the hit. I don't think you'll have much choice.

I did try searching for "sell books" and came up with a ton of websites, but I was hoping to get suggestions from people who know that the site they use works and is reputable.

Hey I know that you don't like frauds or anything and I don't either, so if you have any books about fiction then I'd be happy to buy... If your not interested then I undersatnd there are some sites that hook up with barnes and nobles that buy. If you don't like that idea then mabey do a yard sale for the books. I sure you'll get a sale somewhere... Good Luck!
