Next month I'm going to take my daughter to a NKOTBSB concert. If you don't know who that is then let me spell it out for you, New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys. My daughter begged to go to the concert. I grew up a HUGE New Kids On The Block fan and my 10 year old daughter loves them too! She is also a HUGE Backstreet Boys fan! Getting tickets to the concert was something that she really wanted, so I had to do it. When I was looking at tickets online a few months back, I saw they still had Meet & Greet tickets to meet New Kids On The Block. These tickets were very pricey but my daughter begged me to get them. I had a little money saved up and I splurged to buy them. I thought I had told my daughter, but I guess I didn't. Tonight I was talking about how she was going to get to meet New Kids On The Block, along with her favorite, Donnie Wahlberg and she started crying because she was so happy. It made me happy to know that she is happy and of coarse, I'm just as excited as she is! Have you ever done a Meet & Greet before? Is it worth the extra money?

Yes, I've done meet and greets but they were free. I would not dream of paying to meet anyone, not even my all time favorite guitarist.
You've got to resist these things, you know. A child's life is not ruined if she doesn't get to meet her favorite band. I don't mean to lecture--well, maybe I do--but you need a second job and you splurged on tickets?! What happens when you get sick or need that money for an emergency? Yep, you'll borrow and go into debt. Because you wanted to give your kid something she didn't expect. You actually robbed her of incentive to do something like that as an adult. You've fallen into the trap so many of us parents do.
I hope you won't do this again. Enjoy the concert and make it your last extravagance. Unfortunately, your daughter might expect such things now that you gave in so be strong and think of food on the table and power for the lights.

I agree that the money could have been used for something else, but at the time I wasn't hurting for money. I guess now that money could have been used when I really needed it. I know her life wouldn't have been ruined if she wouldn't have gotten to meet them. I mean when I was her age I wanted to meet them, but my mom was never able to give me that opportunity and I don't feel like my life was ruined.

That used to happen to me all the time...I would think things were going well and I had a little extra money so I'd buy something nice for myself or go to the dentist and then BAM! disaster struck and I really needed that money and I regretted spending it. I eventually quit buying myself anything--don't get to that point!
Isn't it surprising how you can both like the same band--that's still around! I hope you both have a great time.

It isn't very often that I splurge for myself and when I do I normally feel guilty, kinda like what you said. It is amazing, a couple years ago when NKOTB came back on the scene, I didn't think anything about it, she was listening to their new songs and she really loved them, when I brought out their older albums, she went crazy about them too. I took her to see them in concert in '08 and it was a special bonding time. What made it so special to me was that my mom took me to see them when I was about 11 years old. My parents couldn't afford to buy me one of those New Kids On The Block shirts to wear to the concert, so I took an old white t-shirt and my mom helped me paint it. I also had some old white tennis shoes that we did the same to. Alot of their other fans saw my shirt and shoes and made fun of me. It made me feel bad, but I was just so thankful that my mom took the time to take me to the concert and I got to share in that moment with her. I hope my daughter looks back and thinks the same about me when she gets older too.

Hi. singlemommy. That is wonderful, I hope that she enjoys herself at this concert!
I also have enjoyed listening to these guys too. It is a blessing that they are all still alive and able to perform. Many girls loved these guys when I was in middle school. They all came out in the early and the late 90s. I love their songs too. I did went to a concert back in 1998 with my boyfriend at the time. We saw the Lost Boys and Da Brat live in concert! I really had a wonderful time too! I think that we had to pay money to get inside of this concert too. I hope that you and your daughter both enjoy meeting New Kids On The Block! And The Backstreet Boys too! Have fun!

I've never done anything like that before, but it definitely sounds like a lot of fun. I never really got into the music of the backstreet boys, but I did like new kids in the block when they were first popular.

I've been to one meet and greet but I didn't pay for it. I won the tickets (front row!) and VIP passes to meet the Rolling Stones!!!
I also got to go backstage after a concert and meet Sha Naa Naa, one of my sister's absolute favorite bands because they played mostly 50's-type music. I didn't pay for that, either. My sister had muscular dystrophy and was nearing the end when I heard that Sha Naa Naa was coming to Baltimore's Pier 6 Pavilion in the Inner Harbor. I wrote to the sponsors of the concert and told them about my sister and how she would die a happy person if she got to meet the guys in Sha Naa Naa. They called me with instructions and how they'd handle this. At the concert, they had someone bring us backstage passes and told us where to go once the concert was over. We made our way backstage where my sister was given a photo of the guys and she had each one of them autograph it while we were there. She was in HEAVEN! I've always felt really good that I could do that for her.
Now, I hope you and your daughter have an absolutely wonderful time next month at the concert! I hope they allow cameras so you can take a photo of your daughter with the guys! (At the Rolling Stones meet and greet, we weren't allowed to take photos but they had their own photographer take photos and they mailed one to me once they were developed.)

Thank you for sharing your story about your sister. That is very sweet and I know she had to have been in Heaven when she met them. I know my daughter is going to be too. We aren't allowed to take a camera in when we go meet them either, but they have their own photographer just like you said, only they upload the photos online and you can get them on your computer.
