Did the Beatles change the world?

I believe the Beatles were highly instrumental in influencing some things that were going on in the world when they were at their most popular level. Clearly, some of their music was on-point for much of the ugliness of the Vietnam war ("Give Peace a Chance", etc.) and some of it encouraged a generation of youngsters to look for love, instead of its opposite ("All You Need Is Love", etc.). How else did they bring positive influences? Or, did they bring negative influences, too? How?

Their fame and popularity, and ability to sell records and concerts, makes the business people take notice. From there the music industry was born. Businessman starts to invest in music. The pumping in of money, enables better recording facilities and music production techniques to be possible. Music wise.. The adventurous production techniques that they use for their albums. Arrangement of songs, have pretty much have its lasting influence in the music we hear today.

Indeed...their music 'experiments' with orchestras, choruses, unique instruments (sitar, Mellotron, etc.), and the Lennon/McCartney writing/composition team was second-to-none, I think. Thanks!

I think they changed the worlds of a huge bunch of people, and that's as good a place to start as any other place.

Yep...I agree. They could not have understood how influential they'd really be, but I think they had some good motives, even if some of their behaviors were "questionable". Thanks for sharing.

Music changes the world, but singers are human, so they have their good and bad sides on public view. They were people from the 60s generation, it would be impossible for them to do some of the crazy things they did then now, just because some of it is no longer accepted or have crossed over into being normal behaviour. They influenced and influence musicians and listeners then and now, their songs are adapted to be heard by newer generations and are still beautifully done. An example of their music still touching people was Blackbird which had a cover by Chris Colfer as Kurt Hummel and the Warblers on Glee. So did they influence the world? Definitely. Was it good or bad? Both, but their music is their legacy to the world and they should be judged on that.

Yep...they were human, alright. And, I agree some of their influences were not necessarily altogether "good". I know they did a lot of things that would not work today; but I'm not sure I like that fact, because it means we've lost some freedoms, somehow. I know the 60's was a more peaceful and less fearful time (I was there!), and sometimes I wish we could go back there...but I know time moves on. I'm glad the Beatles' music has carried on as long as it has...and that even some of their philosophical, mellow mantras still permeate today's music venues. Thanks for the input.
