Hello students! I want to ask whether you like a lenient or a strict teacher and why? I think that most of you will just answer a lenient teacher, but a strict teacher is actually the best teacher in teaching student, as they can make students to be more discipline, don't you think so? Firstly, I would like to say thank you for taking your time responding to this discussion.

For me, a combination of the two traits in a single teacher would be the most effective. A teacher cannot be super strict and super lenient. There has to be balance in order to discipline the students and at the same time, not having the iron grip which could alienate the students. Of course, I would personally favor the lenient teacher but I think I would abuse the kindness and trust given to me. I am challenged by a strict teacher but being strict all the time makes me more unproductive if the teacher does give way at some circumstances. As I said, balance is key.

Yes, you can say balance is the key. However, it seems that this kind of teacher is hard to find. Secondly, (I don't know if this work at other schools' students) a bit strict from the teacher is already considered strict.

I would of course prefer a lenient teacher like most other people would. While I do agree that strict teachers are the best teachers in teaching students to be disciplined, I also do think it depends a lot on the students' mindset as well. Back when I was in school, I remember there were those lower-ranked classes with naughty and lazy students who had strict teachers teach them but they just kept on with their ways despite all the scolding and caning by the strict teachers. So if you give me the choice between a lenient teacher who teaches well and a strict teacher who teaches well/badly, I'll choose the former any day because I know that even if a teacher is lenient, I will still behave and concentrate on the teaching since that is my personality and mindset......

Never heard of mindset before. But I think the way of students' thinking is influenced by how the teachers teach.

I like a strict teacher but impartial. Lenient teacher are needed but not all the teachers be strict. Important is a teacher teaches even a below standard students comes up. A teacher who loves and cares for. A teacher with magnetic personality.

Yes, I agree with you, but for me, it depends on the subject though. I love strict teachers, but not that strict. Just enough that they have their own rules and follow it and discipline the students well.

Most students would really prefer a lenient teacher since they would feel comfortable. Unfortunately leniency has a high chance of being abused, most of these students take advantage of it that they are already disrespecting the teacher. I would prefer a strict teacher with a sense of humor. Since a class becomes boring if it's all strictness, it's good to have an icebreaker from time to time. That way students don't become afraid of the teacher and at the same time they don't disrespect the teacher.

In my opinion and experience, I have never met such teacher before. The teacher I ever met is like this one: at first, she is very strict, then as time passes, she loosen up a little bit. So, I have never met a strict teacher with sense of humour yet :D

hi ii agree with you that strict teachers have better opportunity at their door steps to actually imbibe the required knowledge into the students within the stipulated amount of time .. when a lenient teacher handles the same situation the situation might turn out to become a havoc thanks to the teachers lenient nature that forces the kids to have things done in their own will and wish :) but after that i have said that only a strict teacher stands to gain in terms of letting the kids travel through the correct paths we cant just eliminate the presence of a lenient teacher .. there are many examples where a lenient teacher has succeeded in teaching the students successfully sometimes making the students reach the levels;s which he/she wouldn't have possibly done by being a strict teacher ... the reason for the above statement is purely because lenient teacher is easily approachable unlike a strict teacher !!! so i dont completely say your view is wrong but i just want to voice out that even lenient teachers can work out wonders with their students on the same scale as the strict teachers with that kind and considerate smile on their face !!!!:):):)
