I was dumpster diving last weekend

You know what, it was slow at the business while I was doing my part - time job at the restaurant. We don't have much customers to look after, so we hang out at the back of the restaurant, one of those dumpsters area. We had noticed that the Dollar General store has dumped bunch of its inventory to the dumpster, some includes toys, and key chains, and also skin notion etc..... To my suspicion, those inventories were in the stores for while without selling out, so they might get clear the shelf for new stock to come on shelf. My co - worker and I go through the dumpster, and found a whole box of those wrapped stuff. My co - workers brought a bunch of toys for his kids, for me, I only got those key chains, and miscellaneous stuffs that I might have good use of.

While "dumpster diving" may not sound too appealing, it sounds like you did well! Also, I'm assuming all of this merchandise wasn't covered in disgusting garbage, right? Haha! ^_^
However, I am a bit concerned about the legality of that. Is what you did legal? I personally do not know if it is illegal or not, but it is close to stealing.
I hope it's not illegal, and you don't get in any trouble!

Hey, since they don't want it, it is in the dumpster, and there is no sign saying we can't trespassing, so I assume that is legal activities. Anyway, it is been a week already.

Well, that may be so... but that doesn't mean it is not illegal. :(
Perhaps you should research your local laws about this? It is different everywhere... but in some places, it is in fact illegal.

Not sure of where you are, but in the state where I live it is actually illegal to take things from a dumpster. I do not see harm in it as long as the dumpster is not covered in rotten food and you aren't selling the things out of it. However, I worked in a grocery store and you would not believe how many times we heard of people getting meat and food out of it and selling it to others. That is disgusting!!

Sometimes store employees 'by mistake' throw out merchandise and put it in the dumpster so they can come back and get it for themselves later. You may have lucked out by interrupting someone's scam.

That's an interesting way to pass up time. You and your friend are very lucky, that incident doesn't happen that often. Although the idea that you had to pick those from the dumpster is kind of weird.

I'd love to dumpster dive! But not alone though!!! First of all, it's a shame that stores and establishments throw away all the stuff when it's still all good. They should have just donated all of it. People are getting around it which is a great thing :) Until stores learn to donate and make use of good things than toss them out, I hope we all make the most of it!!!

Sounds like you snagged some really cool finds especially your co-worker. Apparently it may be illegal though so just be careful that you dont get caught or if you feel uncomfortable taking the risk of possibly getting fined for your dumpster diving then stop I guess. If I saw something cool in a dumpster when I went by I would probably take it as well.

Every little bit helps. I wonder why they threw it down instead of marking it down til it sold seems silly. But that's alright if you found something useful and new especially go for it.

i would like to experience this dumpster diving thingie.
here in the philippines, garbage is covered in disgusting stuff so i don't do it. but in the states, i think i'd be able to score better things out of dumpsters.
