I saw this pattern posted on FB http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/kids-remix-skirt now I was thinking if I could figure it out perhaps I could use this on jeans that my oldest has ripped the knee's out in? And somehow convert the jeans into being skirt like (since you can make an old pair of jeans into a purse not that I've done it but KWIM?) with a little sewing and trying to make the ruffles around the end? Am I making any sense? But on the other hand DD1 is 8 would she be caught wit such a thing in school? But she's also like frilly so.... And I don't know that I like the colors they used yet I can see why they did to show depth. I was thinking black and white w/ hot pink in there?

Oh this is so cute. I Just love it. Nothing tried nothing gained. You go for it. I do not have a sewing machine but used to sew a lot many years ago. I made winter suits when I lived in the U.K. and lots of dresses. I also made my wedding dress - definitely a bit too ambitious but I did it. Go with the colours you chose too as they sound great together. Just show your daughter the pattern and explain to her that you would make it especially for her. I think that she will approve and may even try to help you

i think that peopld likes to make their own style.i find that people are afraid to try their ownstyle just incase people will talk. well u know if yr making something for yr daughter and she is young then she wouldnt say anything but be pleased that u made he something. as they get older they have their own style but with yr help maybe u both could make something that both can do and that would excite her more. she would proably get more comments because it was a team efford. if u are trying something knew and u didnt know what it would look like then go ahead and do it yr way and ull be surprised what the public has to say about it.everyone is afraid to try new things but u know u could try yr own style and u never know u evven may like what the out come is. ive been told by a very good friend that if u dont try ulln never whow how it would turn out. everyone has talent in them were born with it but some may have to do it over and over again until i looks right for u then ask friends or even family what they thought honestly.they will tell u and u could feel happy. if u dont go ahead a try ull never know what yr talent is and then ull think that u cant do it and u wouldnt try. if u dont succeed the first time try try again.the main thing of doing yr own thing is how u feel about yr work. ill be surprised on how it would turn out. u never know if someone else saw yr work they may ask u to do them something and thats all it takes. do yr best and be happy and dont let anyone discurge u for u are yr own person and not every one will like what u do but if u like it andf u did yr best than thats all that matters. people loves homemde stuff and yr work will go by word of mouth from friend tomfriend or family to family. be happy with yr work and be proud of what u did.

I do agree with all you said but one piece of advice as you are new here. Heck the guidelines but I believe yo9u are not allowed to shorten words the same as you would if you were texting someone. I seem to remember that it is not allowed. For examle write 'you' instead of 'u'. Welcome to Mylot and I do hope that you enjoy yourself here

i think its really cute of you to create something for your daughter^^ but i dont like that crochet thing in the end of the skirt. maybe you could create a print there yes but not with crochet. i saw the image and the crochet its not really cute in that skirt. maybe you should create a cool print and make a skirt for her but try to look for more ideas^^ im not sure if crochet is really good for young people.. im also young and i wouldnt like to wear a skirt that has crochet technique in it :( but the skirt without that looks good ^^

Hmm.. On one hand I think it looks cute.. on the other hand I don't think my 8 year old daughter would wear it (or even if I'd want her to) even though she is frilly and girly. How old is DD2 and does she like that sort of stuff? I could see this being something cute for a little girl.. like the age of the one in the picture, but I think older girls tend to avoid wearing things that are obviously home-made because obviously it just looks sort of cheap.. KWIM? I mean, personally, I've always hated owning crocheted or knitted items just because it was obviously cheap. I've always liked appearing as if I have more money than I do. Just my thoughts. Why don't you show the pic to your girls and get their thoughts on it.

I've got to disagree here. I think it's just u g l y. I think an eight year old would be more likely to wear an entirely crocheted skirt than that. Denim doesn't lend well to being 'dolled up'. Just my opinion.

why not! Go for it,I mean the Jeans are ripped anyway right? Just use scrap yarns and see how it goes!
