Okay, today I stumble into 1 advertisement. This guy claim he was shot in the leg after he have won 3 lotto draw in a row. Before that he also won like 2 draw. He claim the shooter want his secret formula for winning lotto. And after the incident, he have wrote a books regarding the Lotto secret.
I've also seen somethings like that in a TV series "Numbers". Have you seen the TV series. This guys Charlie Eppes have managed to calculate even the scratch and win card that are winning big money.
So do you guys think there is a formula we can used to predict the Lotto result or lotteries?

That's quite an interesting story but I don't think there's a formula to predict the lottery numbers. There are even scammers online claiming they have the formula for every lottery type but I don't think they have because if they do, they won't waste they're time selling ebooks online.

Yep. And if I knew what the formula is, I'm extremely sure I'll never share it with anybody.

I think it is possible. I saw that episode as well in Num3rs and although they might not have shown the exact solution to computing the winning combination, it is possible especially for genius mathematicians out there. It's all about probability and all that math stuff. But the chances are way too great to comprehend. I also remember that in the firs t episode of Numb3rs, Charlie Eppes mentioned that the it is a waste of time taking your chances in the lottery. I couldn't remember what exactly he said but it was something like that, since the probability is like 1 in a billion or more.

I am not really sure about that. I believe that it is just luck- but there is a possibility of formulating a formula, especially if you're good with numbers- using the probability test- but winning is so hard.

I don't think there is a formula. There is a formula to know the number of possible combination but to pick the right number, I don't think so. Lotto is just based on luck, lucky you if your number was picked.

chiwasaki,
The luck just not something we can rely on when playing jackpot or lottery. For some the luck just never come. And some always have the luck.
bodycather,
Usually even if play all the number combination, you won't win any money either. For example jackpot 6/52 in our country. We have 52 number to choose from and there are 6 slots. The probability are 20million. The prize money should never exceed 20 million. So picking all number is not a good strategy.

You can use the mathematical probability formulas to compute the chance of certain combinations winning, but there is no way you can predict if that combination will win.
That person claiming he knows the formula is obviously a scammer. If he knows the formula then he doesnt need to sell his secret but instead, he will just wait for the biggest lotto win and bet on it. And if his formula by some bizarre scenario is indeed real, think how many people will win the winning combination every draw, like thousands already, but as of now that does not happen.

Well, mathematically you can find every single possible combinations of numbers. However, betting on each one is pretty much spending all the money you are about to win plus more. To be honest, lotto companies know their odds, and would not allow themselves to be ripped off. Or else their business is a waste. The man may perhaps be really lucky, or is part of the lotto company's scheme where he gets payed off to pretend to be the winner, as the "prize pool" in a lottery increases when there is no winner. But ye, you cant predict it, accurately, but you can definitely calculate it.

Yeah, you're right. The lotto company will never get themself ripped off.
For example in my country. For 6/52 jackpot, the odd to win is 20 million combination. The maximum prize money for this jackpot are 20million. So there are no way the can lose money even if all combination are bought.
And if 2 or more people win the same number, they will share the money evenly.

I think it is possible, but i dont know what method is behind it.I think maths can do lot of magic with numbers.

I guess there is. I mean, it's only a combination of numbers and just calculating the probability of a winning combination. Well, that's what my mom, who's a mathematician always claims. Just one tiny problem though. The statistical probability of hitting the jackpot for a typical 6-digit combination runs into millions. 1 out of 5 million-plus I think :)

Probability for winning jackpot in our country I think 20million. Usually the snowball money are maximum at 20million as well. That is for 52 number combination that is the lowest.
For 58 number combination, I think it is 40 million. Not easy to win though. the odd for us to win are 0.
