can't handle long fingernails

I used to have this habit of biting my finger nails when I was young. I saw people with beautiful nail paints and I wished I could paint mine too. I tried stopping biting my finger nails but I often bit my nails without even realizing it

. But some 3 years ago I somehow stopped that habit of mine and have long nails now

. I paint them usually and love it :) Anyhow it seems I still can't handle my fingernails. Just this morning I was washing my hands and one of my fingernails cut my hand

. It didn't hurt but it bled. This is not the first time though. I have quite some cuts at my hands and legs because of my fingernails :/ LOL anyway did/do you have the habit of biting fingernails?? and do you have problems with your fingernails like I do?? :P But yeah I still love my nails. I think it looks much better than it did before :D

As a cook I never really had long fingernails...but now I Am retired my nails are growing quite well and I love it!

Wow so you are a cook?? I always wished I could cook btter than I cook now. I suck at cooking but yeah I do have some exceptions :) i love long nails too

having a long fingernails or even toenails is good, but the negative side is when you accidentally collide your fingers unto hard objects, it usually the root nail uprooted to its based and be a very painful...

Hiya TG, Never bit my fnger Nails but I do have them an awful lot in Water and hot water even if you have Gloves on to protect your Hands it still does the same damage as I have to wash other things and use Water to clean too. I have pretty strong Nails but being in Water so much makes them go soft and break more easily.

True. After having showers my nails look so different and fragile. And if not taken care then, it starts breaking. It sure is a lot of work taking care of nails than we actually think

Hiya TG, Specially true is now that the weather is really hot here and I cannot bear to wear Gloves so I still have to use hot water even though it´s so hot. So my nails get all soft and ragged. I do put cream around the cuticle after just before I am going out and it does keep the Skin from building up around the nail itself and helps make them a bit stronger but not much. They do grow long most times but it´s the harsh Water that ruins them for me most times.xxx

I have stopped biting my fingernails long time ago. And yes, I used to have the same problem ... cutting myself with my fingernails. That's why, I always keep my fingernails short.

Hi There :) I use to bite my finger nails before it was when i was excited or nervous and in came on to become a nasty habit of mine :P but five years ago when the new year started i decided to make that my resolution and i stayed free of nails biting lol up till now.I do not have the best of fingernails they are pretty weak but at least its fingernails :).Cheers to you and your fingernails :P

Hehe I used to bite my nails all the times too nad I'm glad I stopped it. Now my nails well in my view they look good

I don't know what others think of it. Mine's pretty weak too, especially when I come in touch with water.

i wrote a similar article about nail biting and how guilty i am about it. hehe. it started when i was in grade school and now that i am turning 25 i am still doing it. but now i committed to give it another try. i applied a pretty pinkish brown nail polish and i am on my 4th day of success... no more nail biting, there are urges (involuntary and unconsciously, hehe) but im working my way out to having pretty nails now. have a nice day! - kat

i started biting my nails since forever, as much as i can rewind my memories!! i don't know how i developed a habit like that but i sure know it was very tempting and i could not see my nail growing even a teenie weenie bit, i bit them all. anyway i am so glad i stopped that habit of mine. it was a really difficult "challenge" for me to stop it and sometimes i would just bite them off without even realising. Yep putting on pretty nail polishes did help me to some extent but what really helped me was the dream of putting on pretty nail polishes on an actual long nail and not just the short things in my hands

I used to bite, but quit in college - I've never really cut myself, but I have stabbed a few other people... I can't tolerate nail polish, and I've never been much for doing all the nail stuff, so while they are long enough, they aren't particularly decorative...

I've never bit my nails. I used to have nicer nails but with the job I have now I am always breaking them because I have to open metal bins and do things that chip my nails all the time. Fortunately my nails grow fast so I don't worry about them growing after chipping them all the time. I don't fuss about painting them any more. I don't do anything to them at all. People sometimes complement my nails when they are longer. I prefer longer nails because my fingers are long and they don't look right when my nails are too short.

Same here. Long nails make my hands and fingers look sleek and long. But yeah if I cut them short, it'll take forever for them to grow back so i just try and trim them a bit at times.

I used to like longer fingernails. They weren't outrageously long, but they were somewhat long. However, I'm finding that I can't handle long fingernails anymore. After a while without cutting them, they just start annoying me, and I just need to get a nail clipper and clip my nails. I'm not sure why I don't like them long anymore, but it's just the way it is.

Yeah well I am not really fond of my long nails as I was before. The first time when I grew my nails long, I was pretty excited and would file it, treat it, paint it and what not. Now it's not so special but still I adore them :)

I hae never bitten my nails. Sometimes I bite the cuticle around it though. I used to have very nice nails. Now I have health problems and it is reflected in my nails. I can't let them get to long or they chip and flake and go flat.

I never like growing my fingernails long because it usually goes in the way of my work. I have a toddler and I don't want him being accidentally scratched by my nails. I think it is low maintenance too if you have short nails, because you don't have to regularly go to a manicurists.

Yeah if you have long nails, you might hurt someone. I sometimes scratch my siblings and/or friends, but yeah not intentionally. It's so out of control at times, like when I hurt myself as well LOL

Long nails is very sexy :D i like to make it long since i was 15 ..i couldn't cut my nail and make it short :S i feel like boys and my hand is not nice.I care for my nails and i get so pissed off when one of them get broke with any way...coz i have in these way to cut them all to make in same tall.I just scratch people with my nail :D not myself

Yeah I really get pissed when one of my nails break. Then, I have to cut all of them off coz if not, it would look really weird.

I never had a problem with biting my finger nails. I just have a problem with tips, I can't do anything with them.. I pick something up and it almost breaks off, that's pretty painful. I usually cut my nails every week, because they grow out really fast. But nothing compares to the speed my toe nails it's crazy.

I chewed my finger nails when I was a kid. I just out grew the habit. I can't wear my finger nails long. They will start breaking off if I could wear them long!LOL! I wear my nails short and working in a kitchen it is a good idea! I have done the finger nail polish thing,too! I have not in a long time. Finger polish is not good to wear in food service either,when working around food! I never have cut my hand with my finger nails. Once in awhile I wake up with a scratch mark on my face from my fingernails I don't remember doing! My sister,when she was alot younger let her fingernails grow really long and did the fingernail polish,too! Her nails are still long but not super long and continues the fingernail polish routine. I don't know if she cuts her hands with her nails.LOL!

Yeah actually sometimes I find some cuts in my face too LOL maybe I cut myself while having shower but I don't really remember

In my expere=iences with fingernails, i never really had to worry about them getting too to handle. i would usually break a nail before it could ever get to that stage. sometimes i am envious of people who who can have long and beutiful naiks. i just don't know how they can keep them that way.

Yeah I know. some of my friends have really lovely nails and their hands look really beautiful. I do love my nails though

I have very long nails and have had them for a great many years. I was not a nail biter and as you enjoy polishing my nails to suite my mood. Mine tend to get way too long way too fast, so I have to constantly trim and shape them often. I don't have trouble with mine and do not believe I cut myself with them. Maybe trim them a little bit so that you do not continue to cut yourself.

Yeah I best trim them a bit shorter than I do now. I have many small scars around my hands and legs and they don't look so good. And I think those scars are permanent now :(

Yes, handle long nails is a big headach! and it is an annoying thing. Because I've read the nails are a main factors for many diseases. So cutting the nails is very safe to health. If we like them for beauty or any other things, we will tamper our health by our own (finger)nails!

Hello thatgirl13! I also have that habit when I was still young also. My mother reminds me a lot back then to stop biting my nails and she will get all angry when she caught me doing it. Eventually it stopped. As much as I want to have long nails because it looks pretty especially for a girl and it's nice to have painted nails, I just can have long ones on my own. I have thin nails and they get broken easily. :( So now, I just cut them every week. It would be nice to have long painted nails and I envy girls who do have.

Hey if you have thin nails, you can put on the transparent nail polish. It makes your nails harder and stronger. But don't put it too often coz it is said to not be so healthy. Instead remove it and re polish your nails often :D
