Do you want to make a memory quilt?

I'm 17 now, but as I grow up, I want to make a big quilt full of fabric swatches from parts of my life. I read about it in a book in like 2nd grade, about a grandmother who teaches her granddaughter to make a quilt, and I've wanted to do it ever since.
A memory quilt is a quilt made out of pieces of fabric that represent parts of life. You might cut off a piece of a tablecloth to represent a special dinner, and you might get a piece of a baby blanket from the birth of your first child, a piece of his or her favorite shirt once they outgrow it, cute stuff like that.
It's the kind of thing that becomes an heirloom, and it can be passed down through the generations.
I'm hoping that when I sew it one day, it will look nice and hold together so it can become a valuable family memorial.
Do you know anyone who has ever done anything like that?

Yes, i made such thing. I did two panels, one for my past, and one for my future. I did my "past panel" to understand what i want to do in future. After I did a "future panel", i was sure that past is just hurting me, and just left it behind.

There is a growing Aids quilt. The panels represent each person lost to the illness.
I had to make a few for men that had no family that would represent what they had done in their life. The quilt is still growing. We hear less about it now than we did back in the 90's. When I saw the quilt for the first time even then it was large. I remember seeing Ryan White's panel, and it struck me hard to have known about the life of someone so young and so determined to make sure others knew about this disease.
Making a special quilt for you to hand down to your children and family would be very special.
I cross stitch so I hope that I will be able to finish each member in my family a cross stitch picture that was handmade from me.
Good Luck on yours!
