Stupid smart phones!

I have htc tattoo which is my first "smart phone". I admit there are some amazing aps for it and the touch screen works surprisingly well but... a camera without auto focus, no flash light, you have to download an app from android market to be able to see folders and just know you have to create a folder named ring tones and put mp3's in just so you can change your ring tone, light doesn't turn off sometimes, small amount of internal storrage (around 170mb) for applications and you can't install them to sd unles you root the phone (we're not talking about a simple procedure i haven't managed to do it yet...you have to literally write code), can't see a simple mms and so on. I mean come on it's called a smart phone not an idiot phone. I would say it's great for simple users but it's not because simple things can be extremely complicated and wouldn't say it's for advanced users either because you have to really be more than average geek to handle it. So what is your experience with smart phones? Anyone thinking about getting one? I wouldn't repeat my mistake

I have actually a HTC Touch Pro 2 -- same year than the Tattoo -- : the camera has an auto-focus -- but it is not very good --, and I can put some applications -- but not any application -- on a SD. For directories, I have downloaded Total Commander for smartphone, and it is a very good software. It is my second Windows Mobile smartphone, and the only problem is that I have to do often a soft reset to clean the memory. Smartphones have many limitations : Android is not a complete Linux system nor Windows Mobile a complete Windows system, and both are not perfect. On the positive side, smartphones have a great autonomy and a lot of software available today to make them more... smart.

Thanks for mentioning total commander i'll check it out, glad to hear you actually can move some applications to SD (it is possible). True about the limitations but as far as internal storage is concerned. What's the point of android market with thousands of apps if you can only install say 50 because space is so limited? I forgot to mention this... I set a specific file as ring tone for my gf and a few weeks ago it was changed as if the phone picked what suits it's taste. Yesterday it changed again...how in the world is that possible and logical?

Mine is a Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone, not an Android. When you install an app on a SD, a lot of stuff is in reality installed in main memory, like DLLs. And sometimes it is not the phone that is stupid, but the owner : I realized it after I installed a downloader on the card. When the SD has been full, I could not change for another : the downloader was not on the empty card.

I agree with you many times you read forum threads and people don't know anything and start complaining about how it doesn't work or are just superficial. But i'm not one of them i pay attention to detail especially when it comes to isnstructions regarding software and pc's in general and i couldn't do this simple task in two days. You're lucky you don't have android as far as moving things to sd is concerned. As always thanks for contributing to discussion

I also think that the phone you owe is really not a smart phone, rather it is a problem phone. In my phone any phone should be called a smart phone which is easy to be used and also what the functions it has must be used easily. I use a nokia phone , and I am happy with the performance and features of this. as the cost of this phone is not too high. But it works well and very smart and robust.

I hate nokia (don't take it personally) friend had one and it fell apart in a month but still there were some robust and simple phones that were better than any new smart pone in some views. After all the most important part are the calls and short messages and i can't even view a mms on my phone. The latest models have all sorts of stuff on them but they lack the basic parts like a keyboard you can use. My vision is good i don't have glasses but one just presses wrong number on these touch screens. I used to write messages in no time now i have to really work hard to drop a line with no errors. Thanks for your comment, have a great day.

I guess theres always going to be a feature or two missing or detracting from all phones. If not, a newer model is going to come out and you will be disappointed that you dont have it. I have a galaxy ace and an ipod touch (ok thats not a phone, but I carry round both!). The galaxy ace should be capable of running flash because its an android, but its processor speed just falls short of the requirements so flash doesnt work. Also it looks like it has 2 cameras, but it only has a rear camera. And mine crashes if I leave the wifi on when I'm not using it, and I think its a thing with the phone because I already sent one back that had the same problem and now this one does it too. Grrr. But I can live with that, I just remember to switch the WiFi off when I dont need it. As for the ipod/iphone. Good old Mr Jobs doesnt want people to use flash on there, so no flash. Grrr. And I dont like having to put my password in every time I need to update/download something from the app store. Annoying! Oh and I dont like how you cant copy music from your pod to your computer without it throwing a copyright wobbler. I think everyone could complain about something about their handset.

I don't have any complains about my previous phone. I had sony k750i, it was good looking, batter life was good, camera was decent(better than what i have now), it had useful flashlight that could be on for hours and i had it for 5 years and i only changed it because camera stopped working. I even showered it once and it survived. But i think everyone has something to complain about new phones. Same thin that you mentioned happens when i leave gps on...it crashes. Thanks for your comment and sharing your experience. Have a great day

Smart phones are not for the weak hearted. Its called smart phone due to the number of things that you can do with it besides call and SMS. In the first place, initially you are the one who picks the phone for its features. Its would be best to smartly review the phones before purchasing them. It took me weeks to result to a cheap android solution. So far I am happy with the Galaxy 5 that I have.

I'm not weak harted and i did review it before buying, actually i wanted to buy a newer model i this sale but they sold all before i asked. Yeah you can do many things but some things are so complicated to do and should already be done. Try moving app to sd...you'll figure out there are like 4 procedures to complete before you can and even rooting phone is hard. Have you done it? Thanks for comment

Good smart phone must fulfill all the basic needs and necessities, from your topics i come to know your phone don't have some important feature. You must change your phone to get a lot of good options. I don't have a smart phone and using GPRS enable phone

i think smartphone can be really useful for many things you can do or pretend for your mobile device so now i have a smartphone too also because in relation to the old generation phones they are closing ,for many features,to a mobile computing than a simple mobile phone....i never felt really difficult manage or add new features to these devices but naturally it depends inmany cases from different needs and use!

My Motorola Defy is my third Android-powered smart phone. And, while I've had trouble with phones in the past, that hasn't stopped me from getting some smart phones. Espically Android-powered phones. Now, that particular phone may be deffective, or that brand might not fully support the full power of Android. From the sound of it, that would be my best guess. Then again I've been with Android since T-mobile launched the G1 back in october of 2008. Mind you I've had several phones since then, but I always go back to Android. For me it's well worth it and I've had no problems with the OS itself. When I got my Cliq XT, I did have a few problems with the phone. But, I was able to replace it with the warenty. This time I was smart and pay a monthly fee for unlimited warenty. Yay.... Now I'm not going to need it XDD. But on a serious note, you just got a bad phone. Android is an excelent smartphone and OS.

I have an LG Optimus Android phone and the keyboard was impossible. I found an application called Big Buttons Keyboard that made it usable but I still have not found any flash player that will install on my phone. They all say adobe flash must be installed and when I look for it to download it, I can not find it. Also some of the talking applications are hilarious. I tried the voicemail translations and it is often way off base.
