So i came across an article today with the above mentioned title, what it generally showed was how Obama wants the Americans to start studying science and technology cause somehow according to him Indians and Chinese who are very hungry are outsmarting them on those fields. This was one the of the Top news and on the very first page of Yahoo India! so obviously it caught attention and lots of people commented, and most of them was negative comments about how Obama is so bad, how he should quit doing whatever he is doing, cause Indians are way ahead. I know its the truth, but you can't blame the man for trying to make the next generation well equipped for getting jobs, lets face it, in today's world all the high profile jobs are either science or technology based and just cause our government doesn't give a crap about us, doesn't mean other countries won't. To me what Obama did was perfectly fine, its not a crime to teach your younger generation the right thing. I mean come on! when was the last time you saw an Indian politician being at our collages motivating us? Our government should actually learn from this. What do you think?!

We do need to pick it up in these areas. I mean we should be getting beat by these countries they should be following us we need to stay far ahead of them and make sure they are always last and that goes for every other country on this planet the United States should be the Technology center of this world where nations wish they where as good as us.

That's pretty much what every country wants, and off-course you gotta do your part to get there, i would want the same for my country too, but i guess its already there and I am not sure about United States being the technology center of the world or not, I believe China is more suitable for that.

While I agree that the United States does need to make a vast improvement in science and math, I do not agree that we should only do so because someone else is ahead of us. If we were so concerned about being ahead, we wouldn't be ranked as low in education as we are now.

Actually we should do it because someone is beating us and the United States doesn't like losers or losing.

Let me preface my answer by saying that yes we should motivate our country to do better, always. Regarding people in India being upset about it, that is because they would like to "stay in the lead". Ok, that being said, I would like to point to this piece of information: http://www.usaid.gov/in/ You will find that the US funds aid to India in farming, health, TECHNOLOGY, education, food security, agriculture.... I am not worried that India is "beating us"

That's really interesting, if we actually work with together like this helping each other instead of war and fights, the world would actually be a better place soon! thanks for sharing laglen.

India has out stripped us for generations in math and sciences. There is actually a "free quota" of folks who can come over here if they have degrees in those areas. Our kids are so 'dumbed down' in school that we do not have enough graduates in those areas that we do not even have enough teachers to teach our own students. Yeah, I guess it is time for our kids to start studying. It is WAY PAST TIME! It will take a generation to just catch up.

There is nothing at all wrong with what President Obama proposes; but as long as the teachers unions have control of our educational system, and as long as politicians believe they can better control the people if they are dumbed down, it's never going to happen; so it would seem to be empty words.

Indeed, unions and politicians have their own role to play, and i can tell you its even worse in here, anyways thanks for your input.

indeed, all the top jobs are either technology/science or management related, so everyone should prepare themselves for those. Thanks for your input.

I do agree that we desperately need more classes and studies in science, math, and technology for our students and for our nation's health in the future. However, as long as the states and federal governments keep cutting funding for education, I do not see this happening. At the same time, this will cut our nation's ability to keep up with the times, and improve our employment ratings, economy, GDP, and pretty much all economic functions if we do not improve our education standards for our youth. If education in these areas is so important, then WHY do they insist on cutting education funding, and preventing our schools from improving education standards for our youth?

hi mehale! believe me when i say this, upgrading the whole education system takes ages! really, people would think India's education system is pretty decent, well it is to a certain point, but it does need a lot of improvement along with lots of initiation and focus from the government, there are so many universities, so many domains to begin with that it really gets impossible to manage all those, and the most important thing we are lacking is man power! so anyways my point is, if you are wishing to see an over night change its most likely not going to happen. Thanks for sharing!
