During school vacation, my husband and I has thought of ways of lessening our power consumption which is around $25.00 or Php 1,000.00 here per month. We have changes all our bulbs to 5 watts, used the laptop instead of desktop, do not use the automatic function of washing machine, seldom use the crt television, unplugged the refrigerator and uses electric fan instead of aircon. On the first month, we had reduced the electric bill to more than 50% and now we are more than happy to decrease it by almost 90%. The whole family spends more time in my in-laws house which I think made them happier, we often retun home only at bedtime. If the whole nation would just do the same, I think pollution will decrease substantially... Can you do the same?

This is really admirable, but I don't think I could do this. It gets quite hot where I live and the only source of entertainment is in the home pretty much (live in the middle of nowhere).

Hello youaremylush... yes, I did not thought of reaching that low, our original goal was just to lower our bill to 50%. Anyway, start looking around your house, there are many ways to minimize electric bill. If you can't reduce the usage of AC, maybe start with your bulbs and lightning. For entertainment, we use a portable dvd instead of using a dvd machine and a television at the same time, we use laptop instead of desktop. The smaller the machine/appliances, the lesser is the power consumption.

Yes, I hope this could serve as an inspiration. Thank you very much, I don't think I could maintain the same for the next months because school has already started, there would be a lot of uniforms to be washed and ironed. But a less than $10 electric bill will be good enough for us.

Unbelievable. I can't imagine how much it will cost me this month's electricity though. It might cost a lot, since it is the beginning of hot summer days again. Every single day well above 90 degrees, and we just can bear the heat anymore. So, we decided to turn on the A/C almost every single day. Hopefully, the temperature will be cooler soon.

Yap, I myself did not imagine that we could reach it. A 50% decrease would be a nice achievement. Actually, we reached it because my in-laws wanted us to stay more time with them because of their illness and old age. My eldest daughter is now leaving with them so that they will have a company if they feel bad during the night. Now, we are obliged to stay in their house, from the time we arrive home from work till its already bedtime. On weekends, we go there before lunch time and go home only at night time. My youngest daughter would also sleep with them during weekends. We have a great family time besides the great savings from the bill. With regards with the summer and heat, my in-laws house has more ventilation and has trees near the house that's why we don't need an aircon to cool the place.
