Cat Fountain

Hello fellow mylotters. Today the fountains I ordered came, and I quickly cleaned them and set them up. I bought two, one for each floor. They were on sale and not nearly as much together as one of the other types cost, so I thought I was getting a good deal. They came in blue and pink. The pink one was only $15.00, but I thought I have only 1 girl cat and 4 boys, so they need a blue one so I do not de-masculinize them. The blue one was 20.00. It is called cat-it, and the pink one doesn't seem to work as well as the blue. STinker, the one who is prone to getting struvite crystals, is kind of afraid of the motor even though it is a soft hum. He is the reason I spent the money on the darned things. Baby took a look at it, looked like she wanted to drink, but the water changed direction and she gave up interest. That was the pink one she tried. I guess I will keep them going for a few more days and hope they will get used to it and get curious about drinking from it. Maybe I should tell them no, leave it. lol! You know cats, they love to get into stuff they are not supposed to. Did you ever purchase anything for your cat that did not work as you had planned? I had envisioned them lapping up the water and having a blast with the things. I am disappointed.

We don't have cats of our own but do "kitty sit" our grandson's female that we saved from starvation. She is very fickle in her habits, one day she will have nothing to do with the water dish but then wants to drink from the faucet in the bathroom. I built her a scratching/climbing post but she would have very little to do with it. Now that it is at her house she enjoys it a lot. I guess what I'm trying to say is that they may come to enjoy it once they find it where they want it.

Cats are strange, for sure. I'm happy to hear the little kitty got rescued and is being cared for. Perhaps a fountain would be good for her as well. Cats don't drink enough water, and they need encouragement to drink. They can and often do develop crystals in the bladder and that leads to infection because they scratch at the bladder wall. I have also been feeding mine canned food mixed with water so they will get fluid. I give it to Stinker twice a day, and the other guys get it once a day. With Stinker, I have to be careful not to mix too much water in because he will not eat it. I made a soup a few times with the food for the other guys, and only 2 of them liked it. They lapped up all the liquid! There was a lot. lol. Of course, none of the two had experienced bladder issues. Bootsie didn't want it, and he also had some slight crystal formations when we went to the vet last time.

True. I have heard many stories of cats who refuse to use them, or do use them in conjunction with the furniture. So far, only Lovie has used the fountain. I see the others drinking from the bowls yet. Lovie got scared of the thing when he was drinking this morning and I opened the fridge and made a noise. I hope this does not scare him from the thing for good now. Stinker probably will not use it. I used to put his food by the fridge, but since I got a different fridge, he does not like being near it when it is on. It is quieter than the other one too! I need to find a fountain that is not so noisy I guess.
