What if your Politician proclaimed he lives a multi- wife lifestyle?

So what would you do? I've been watching the series Big Love from HBo and the guy feels like he should run for office without others knowing that he believes in Multi-wives. He runs as it is just him and his wife and kids and presues his dreams of being in politics because he feels it would better his family and put a new face on multi wives instead of a corrupted view of it instead. If you found out your congressman or congresswoman said they live with multi wives because that's what they believe in would you still want them to be in office? Or would you believe that it's a matter of how they do they job instead of what there personal issues are. Such as look at Bill Clinton was president had an affair and was one of the better presidents we have had in a while. Would you care? Or would you feel it's more important if they do a good job or not instead?

Let's turn this around...No one has a problem with a man having as many 'partners' as he likes. What about a woman having as many 'partners' as she wants. I would bet that would not be acceptable. I know what she would be called. Say we had a Female President that did something like what Clinton did...how long would she have lasted? I thought this country was based on christian values? You folks are not parroting those values here...lol

"What about a woman having as many 'partners' as she wants. I would bet that would not be acceptable" Acceptable as far as I'm concerned. Not my life, not my business, they are consenting adults. "I know what she would be called." Unfortunately, you're right. There is a double standard. "I thought this country was based on christian values?" Arguably, or by judeao-christian practitioners at least. But our laws are not. "You folks are not parroting those values here...lol" Well, I'm not a Christian, lol, so that might explain that..but it doesn't mean I'm a bad or immoral . But allowing other people to do what they wish is not practicing a value, it's minding my own business and allowing consenting adults to do what they wish as long as they are harming no one else and not interfering with my rights.

I agree with you xfahctor! I mean it's really none of our business what these politicians want to do in there personal lifestyles. Although I think it would be a factor in the voting process if there extra spouses and children were on welfare/ government aid.

As long as he's not a child molester or really doing something illegal, I guess I would be okay with it. I don't care what they do in their bedroom. He is a polygamist, then the partners are all okay with this behavior.. it's in the open .. not like a wife or husband cheating on each other.. they are more honest than most by just living the way that they feel is natural anyway. It's about the same thing as voting or not voting for someone because they are gay... for years being gay was paramount as a mental illness. It was in the DSM until it was removed in 1973. The thing is that society changes over time and people become more accepting as time goes on.. so polygamy might be considered normal in another 100 years.

I totally agree with you. As long as there happy and no underage marriages/molesting going on I find it ok for them to do what they want. If there relgion tells them to extend there family to as many wives as possibly and ot have many children. Sure go for it. As long as they dont' become wards of the state. And taxes end up paying for them I'm all for it.

Right. I agree with you. A few years ago I might have objected to the idea of anyone being in a polygamist marriage, politician or just regular person... but you know.. I don't have the right to judge anyone else for whatever makes them happy. I have all I can do to judge myself for my own actions... and choices. I think that polygamist show on TV has opened up the eyes of people all around the world, that polygamists are not dirty old men and young girls.. (some may be) but everyone is an individual and should live according to their own ideals. As long as they are not doing anything illegal, then it's no one's business... and I agree.. it would be our business if we had to pay for them.. but if we don't and they are taking care of their own... it's their lives... not ours. I like your nick name Neededhope. I think all of us have needed hope at one time or another.. I know I did.

Well, having multiple consenting partners isn't really cheating so I wouldn't say it made him a cheating dirt bag because they themselves are all ok with it. There is no such thing as a legal polygamist marriage in any state, but no law forbids them from calling themselves married. As far as I am concerned, they are all consenting adults, who am I to stick my nose in it.

I agree... it's not against the law to have women you aren't really married to living a married lifestyle... it's not bigamy. If the person was qualified for a job in politics, I see no reason that his lifestyle has to be a factor. Now if he was doing something like child molesting and wife beating and been convicted of these things, then I would have a different answer.

I wouldn't care as long as it was consenting and all that I don't care if they are in a poly relationship or a mono relationship because well it doesn't affect me. I mean really why should I care unless he or she is breaking some law but having people besides just your wife or husband isn't illegal in anyway shape or form.

If the politician only had an affair, in my opinion, it would still be okay for me. Men tends to be that. However, keeping lots of mistresses is a different story. I would really not vote for him anymore next time he runs. I am sure that in order to keep those mistresses he will need lots of money to sustain them. Thus, there is the great chance that he will augment his income by resorting to corruption or illegal means. That ,for me is not acceptable.
