Are we alone or are we anything but?

I can imagine it just being us here. Sometimes I think it might be that way. I can imagine the first people alive probably realized that. When I was little I was told the concept of God but I didnt comprehend it at a real level in which I was affected by it until I was probably 10. But when I was really young it seemed like it was only us and I remember wondering how there could be a God. If course now I wonder how there isnt a God, with everything that exists but I may be completely wrong. Did he create it? Did we create it? I guess we just happened (at least thats how I felt when I was about 5) so anything could really happen. Couldnt it?
