I was watching the movie "Pearl Harbor" and saw the devastation caused by Japan. One fact that is not widely reported was that of all the ships sunk in the attack the only one not put back into commission was the USS Arizona. Every other major ship was raised, repaired and sent back into action. In the Battle of the Coral Sea, the first Naval Battle where the ship never fired on each other, the USS Yorktown was bobbed, torpedoed and left burning with no power. The Americans on board were able to get the fires under control and repair the ship enough to engage in battle the next day. It returned to Pearl Harbor only to be sent back out to Midway a few days later repaired and in near battle ready. It was sunk in that battle. The two countries that we defeated - Germany and Japan - were rebuilt by American and now compete with us in the world market. Eastern Europe was rebuilt by the Russians while Western Europe was rebuilt by the USA. Which is better today? When the American people are give the freedom to do things they deliver. During WWII they put out more war implements than our enemy, even though we started the war with a defeated Navy and trailing our enemies by better that half as many troops, and war machinery. If we want the world to recover from this recession and to come back stronger the government needs to get out of the way and let the American people do their thing. If the US economy improves so will the rest of the world. As President Reagan put it a rising tide (US Economy) raises all ships (countries in the world).

The Russians were able to keep going because of the supplies we sent them. When Germany first invaded Russia the Russian people welcomed them but Hitler thought they were inferior and sent many to camps or had them execute. It was after such things were learned that the Russian people started the retreat and scorched earth policy.

No,initially Russia allied with Germany, whilst they built up their military strength, had they not done so they would have had no resistance to the Germans. all the best urban

Under the Lend Lease Program the following countries were helped: A total of $50.1 billion (equivalent to $759 billion at 2008 prices) worth of supplies were shipped: $31.4 billion to Britain, $11.3 billion to the Soviet Union, $3.2 billion to France and $1.6 billion to China. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lend-Lease Germany and Russia were not allies but rather Germany and Russia signed a non aggression pact with each other which Germany broke. Some think the non aggression pact was used by Hitler to keep Russia out of the war until Hitler was ready to invade Russia. Russia also did not declare war on Japan until a few days before the war with Japan was over. As a result they were given control over several Japanese Islands which they still hold today. They also received North Korea as a sphere of influence.
