Hi my friends: I have sometimes wondered when I've started a new discussion on the site, why should we chose only a discussion interest area to classify our discussions? Sometimes it's simple and you can find an appropiate interest area for your discussion but sometimes I have also felt that my question could be classified in more than just one interest and that all of these interest areas are relevant. For example people, relationships and thinker are related on a discussion about the way we act and how this affect people near us. When I have talked about my music interests I can also make reference to my professional life. Some religious discussions are also political discussions. And we can go on. So it would be nice if we could chose more than a discussion interest area sometimes. Don't you think? Please, share your ideas and comments with me. ALVARO

Although some topics can be posted in a large number of interest areas, just pick one that you feel fits it the best. Or you could always go to general topic at the lower right hand corner of the interests. I do not bother posting in multiple sections, just the one that I feel it fits in. After all, you are the one making the post.

HI inertia: Neither do I, but I don't think it would be a bad idea at all. On the opposite this will give the opportunity to people that usually don't participate on an interest I usually post to participate on a new discussion that it also has a relationship with their interests. ALVARO

yeah, otherwise it would be totally confusing... if you could put one discussion in 3 interests, then there might be 3 identical discussions up.

I don't see any point in placing our interests under more than one category. We cannot post duplicate topics even though they are placed in different categories. The way to attract users is by having an eye-catching heading to the topic. You are right though a topic can fit into several categories but you should choose wisely. myLot has given the freedom to users to create their own interests. There are so many avenues through which we can look for topics that catch our eye.

Hi all knowing: That's the point. I am not inviting people to make duplicate of their topics. I am just suggesting that it would be good if Mylot itself allow us to classify our discussions in more than an interest area. That would be great I think. ALVARO

hi starsailover I vary between people and life and my lot as these are the places you get read the most and also fit a lot of interests too. I do not just stick to my interests but to several others too. If I am doing wrong in almost four years nobody has said so so I follow my own policy here. if its on diabetes I will use that interest or health instead. But I like to go where there are the most readers so I get noticed instead of two responses more like 20 or 30.Ones I do not ever enter either to respond or to make discussions and thats religion and politics. too vicious for me. people will lose prospective and attack you for your own belief.

Hi Hatley, I think you're doing it right, haha! ;) Also, I do the same thing. I like to post in the interest that has the most readers. You want your discussion to get noticed more so that you can get more responses! More responses = more opportunity to earn on MyLot! :D

HJi Hatley: For the moment, I think that's the best strategy a Mylotter can take before chosing the interest area to post his/her discussions. I don't usually participate on political or religious subjects either for the same reason. There's a lit of controversies and even people attack each other just because they think different. I think that's negative and I don't want negativity in my life. ALVARO

Interesting. I have started and joined discussions on both religion and politics, and so far no one has been disrespectful in those discussions, even when they disagree. We just agree to disagree.

I know what you mean. That's a wonderful idea and myLot should take note of this one. Assigning your discussion only one category kind of limits you also to the viewers of your discussions. Plus, there are users here who, I find often, favors only some categories here. The chances of our discussions getting read should not feel limited. It should be viewable in more than one category.

Yep. Because you really do have a point here. If our discussions are viewable in more than one category, more users can respond to it. I think that is something myLot should consider.

A discussion can be classified in many subjects. Out of that whatever we feel relevant has to be chosen. For example I have started an hour back a discussion on helping others. I have classified under people-- it can be classified under life also. That way any one is sufficient to guide us to reach the end.

Hi ravisivan: Thanks for sharing with me this picture. I agree with you and I understand that it's up to us to find the best interest area. It's just a suggestion. Sometimes I think there's a good reason why you want to sahre the same discussion in two different subject areas because this question has to be with these two subjects. So it would be nice if Mylot would allow us to chose more than an interest to classify your discussion or at least to chose a secondary interest. ALVARO

Hi starsailover! I have added so many interest in mine, i think you are senior than me here but i have style of my own. When i open mylot, i immediately go to the upper banner and see there the latest interest that someone started. That way i can choose which interest and discussion to respond, or i will open my email first and check which topic is more interesting to participate in. You know everything here in mylot depends on my mood heheh. Sometimes i choose few interests to participate in a day, sometimes i picked randomly, sometimes also i start my own discussion. As i said earlier, it all depends on my mood, dear. Have a nice day!

Hi white wing speak: Don't worry we are here to learn. Sometimes I have to admit that I chose the main interest of a new discussion randomly. Sometimes I also think a little bit deeper just to know what's the more popular interest area for my particular discussion. ALVARO

That's what the tabs are for. If the post is more about relationships but it could be political then it Should be under relationships with a politics tab. me? When a post doesn't quite fit, I post it under Questions And Answers, one of my interests.

Hi sarah: That's how it works usually. But in some cases I've found some difficulties to decide what's the best interest area for my discussions. But in general that's the best way to chose. Just a suggestion. Thanks for your answer ALVARO

Hey buddy, Actually I agree with you but we should consider the interest that close to our discussion. I understand that better to choose a multiple interest but it is impossible here. Mixing will make us more confuse. Although sometimes our discussion posted in one interest but with the series of response it will divert to another interest. Even it happen sometimes but the bottom line it should be mean on what the discussions all about.

Hi julyteen: I think this is one of the main questions one have to ask him/herself before starting a new discussion in order to guide it before posting and hopefully for receiving the best number of responses. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO

I'm sure Mylot's purpose is to avoid redundancies on discussions opened. Therefore, what I do is add more interests on my list. I would also use the search bar so it will be more specific, down to the exact topic based on my keyword. Added bonus to this is a chance for me to earn reward.

I think that choosing just one discussion area makes it easier for people to find what they are looking for. That is the reason that when I start new discussions I simply look for the interest area that is the best fit for the discussion at hand. With that said, we are able to start our own interests if there is something that you really think is lacking. That would be the way to fulfill discussions where you don't think there is really an appropriate category.

Hi dorannm win: Thanks for your answer. Now the question is, but it doesn't happend to you sometimes that you start a discussion and you are not sure about what's the main point. If you want to recieve for example answers from people who are interested on politics or you want that this topic has more to be about social values, etc. Most of the times it's easy but I else have experimented the feeling that I'm not sure what's the best category for some discussions. Hi starsailover, So many topics can fall under different categories. I am not one to really seek out categories as I usually start with listed friends discussion and then move my way into the new discussion tab. There are so many repeated interests in the categories that it can be a bit mind boggling for me sometimes when I am trying to create a new discussion. I can see what you mean about more then one, as so many can be related. I am more into life, and people when I start the few that I have. But have skimmed through the many at times just to find the one that I find closer to my topic.

I think that would make the discussions redundant, wouldn't it? I think it is best as it is. You choose the best interest section that you think is appropriate. It's like choosing answers for a test... there may be 4 right answers, but your job is to choose the most right... the same could be considered true for the interests.. choose the best one that fits the most.

This is a complicated issue, to be sure. One thing that confuses me is that the same topics are already listed under several different interest areas. For example, education can be under Life, Things I have done, Things I Want to Do, and so can many others, like "friendship.""education," "marriage," and more. Sometimes you don't know until you post your comment and are asked if you want to add an interest which interest category "friendship" was put in by the one who started the discussion. So If I start a discussion about myLot, for example, will my discussion show up for anyone who choose myLot interest, or only for those who chose mylot under "internet." When we go to our interests to open a discussion, the interest aren't even separated into their topics anymore, so maybe we don't even know which category we started it in. So I rely on notifications and the search box and looking at profiles for discussions to enter. I can always find one somewhere I want to join.

Hi bagarad: Thanks for answering my discussion. I think we have the same problem. Even when we chose a discussion everybody has to admit that there are so many similar discussion areas that makes the system a little bit more complicated. We may never find a good discussion that have been posted on an interest area that we don't like or that we don't read very often but that it talks about a subject we like to discuss. Thanks for sharing with me your opinion ALVARO

Yes, right because one topic comprises many interest. But since, we are required to put under only One interest we better choice the One area of interest that best suited our topic.

Hi starsailover, I think it's fine how it is. Yes, somethings can be classified under more than one interest... but most of them also can just fit in one category. I do not believe it is necessary to post a discussion under more than one category. You should just pick one that is most relevant, and the one most people would search for your post under. Posting a discussion under more than one category would just make things complicated. MyLot is a simple website that many people enjoy just as it is, and love the simplicity! What is up with so many people wanting to change MyLot lately? It is fine the way it is! :(

Hi Angelee: Well it's fine that you enjoy Mylot just the way it is. Believe me, I love the site and I enjoy being here. That's why I'm still here after more than a year, the site is great. It's just a suggestion and I think it would be sometimes a nice tool if we could chose more than an interest area, specially when you have a more complex discussion. Thanks for your answer. ALVARO
