Flu season. Why me?

Malaysia
June 20, 2011 3:30am CST
Right after dinner with my friends, I knew something wasn't right. My nose was stuffy, and I don't feel energetic as before. Throat started to itch and I became moody and temperamental. Oh God~~ Flu again! MY friend was telling me, " hey, didn't you have had your tonsilities done? You shouldn't be having flu and sorethroat." Half of what she was saying is right, but not the other half. I still down with flu. So, this afternoon, I went to the clinic and the medical officer said, I shouldn't be given antibiotics because I didn't have fever. BUT, I have phlegm! and it's GREEN in colour. I really hate FLU SEASON. It's the time of the year again...Any good remedies to try on? I will take it. (sniff~~~)

Indeed it is the flu season again, so much more so here in Australia where I am now where it is winter time..... Some people say supplements like Vitamin C, zinc and Echinacea can help with cold and flu symptoms. I guess they might be worth a try if you're really desperate for something to try and help reduce the symptoms and severity. But most importantly, you will need lots of rest and make sure you drink lots of water too. Flu is most commonly caused by a virus and is normally self-limiting (which means it will eventually go away on its own), so the medical officer is probably right when he advised against taking antibiotics, which is used to treat bacterial infections. Anyway, rest well and hope you get well soon!

I hate flu too, and I had it a couple days ago. I hate it when it comes to me. I can't eat right, and I can't do my work right. I might have to spend so much time in bed, and not be able to turn on the A/C, since it is summer, and my parents afraid that I would catch cold again. I hate it.

Take it easy, it is not a big deal to have the flu. I have heard that the people who have more flu means that they will have less possibility to have a cancer. No matter what, you will recover in about a week even if you don't take any medicines. Have more water and rest, it will be helpful for you to get well. I love China

Hi youless, Thank you for your response. Nice to know someone who love China. So, Im sure you're from China. :) Yes, I know flu is just some common sickness and nothing can compared to cancer. But very often, I was down with flu and it takes ages for it to go away. Recently, I have done tonsillectomy and one of the reason is, I can no longer tolerate the pain and the soreness on my throat. I have had my tonsils removed mainly I dont want to take antibiotics and I want to boost my immune system. I know I'm getting higher dosage of antibiotics each time I was having flu and the frequent dependency on it, is making my body immune system sleepinggg zzzz. Anyway, more water and more rest, I'll do that! Thanks.

hi, as humans we get flu and its not running nose sometimes we can no t even breathe. One thing in my mind came ,an elephant it drinks with its nose means trunk. If it gets fly and its nose gets struck what is the result. What willhappen. Okay for flu just take as much as rest u can.Sleep, apply oil on head and try to get a steam breathing.Use something which can make u breath good.Herbal is good to be used .Take some hot water and put some eucaluptus oil and try to breath the steam , or try to put some turmeric powder in the hot water and steam .Take only warm things and warm water for drinking .Dont be in the cold or get wet .

I'm so sorry you feel so rotten, Jacklintan! Yes, Zinc supplements do work very well but you have to keep taking them on a daily basis if you want to keep your immune system healthy enough to fight off all the bugs. I take a multivit plus Zinc every day and have been doing so for many years now, and, dare I say, I very rarely suffer from either a cold or flu! It is certainly worth a try! Hope you feel more like your old self soon! Take a decongestant to keep your lungs clear!

Hello sweet Mandolingirl, (I wish I could still remember the times I played my little mandolin back in highschool) lol Thank you so much, you sweet angel. How could I ever forget zinc supplements. Wait a min...let me check on my calcium pills if they have zinc contents in it. YEP! They have it like at 15mg which is meant for better synergistic action and enhanced adsorption for my calcium. Thank you, thank you soooo much. MUAKKKKS! :))

Hello, i don't like have flu either. I just have flu last week. Everytime i have flu, i will go buy a lot of fruit, vitamin C and eat it. Then my friend will tell me "Hey, you should eat fruit BEFORE having flu but not AFTER." However, i think it is helpful.

I'm not really sure what to suggest medically. Perhaps visit your pharmacy and see what they recomend. Try and get lots of rest and keep your fluids up so you don't become dehydrated. I hope you are feeling better soon.
