Why Is The Brother Living Off The Streets In The First Place?

I am sorry but far from being a consensus discussion; I am asking this in relation to an article I read in Yahoo about how a dead brother actually left a will for his homeless brother.
I do not know about you, but I am far from being amused here. I mean here we have a well off brother with a roof over his head while his other sibling is having more than a normal life living on the streets or in abandoned storage sheds.
No disrespect to the deceased but am I to understand that if he did not die, then his brother would continue his life as a vagrant?

"But when family members gave him a number to phone, he never called."
I think that is the man choice to have such life. We don't know what actually happened to the family and it is not a surprise if he get back to his life as a vagrant after he receive that money. I just hope he can stop and start a new life with it. This remind me of the story of Ted Williams- A homeless man with a golden radio voice. The story is different but still about the same category of homeless people~

CTHanum,
Let's not forget that he is a homeless chap and that he will find it difficult to make long distance calls to his relatives in New York.
I can understand that he might not like to take handouts from his brother or relatives but with their financial stature I am sure they could help him on the side anonymously. 30 years is a really long time and even unthinkable to be homeless all those years.
I do smell a rat when there's a mention that there are emotional issues but which family does not have it. I just felt that there are far too many ways to help him which I believe has not been taken fully, if you know what I mean.

that is truly sad. sometimes it makes think of the paradox of life. it is truly ironic that those that have no money helps more than what they could, while those who have abundance are very hesitant to help. there are those who have enough to bring forth a child, are barren and can no longer have a child, and those who do not have the means, bear many children in this world where they couldnt afford. hayyy!

bingskee,
Realities in life can be harsh and sad indeed. Like you, I sometimes wonder why there are more compassion coming from the poor than the rich.
From your comments here, I just cannot help but recall how Warren Buffet has to round up the rich to do philanthropy. Funny isn't it when it should be automatic and voluntary.
You know, when I read this article I just cannot help but feel that there was really no humanity at least with this family.

I would have to assume that in a situation like this the reason that the one brother was living in the streets was because of the decisions that he made in his life. His brother that passed away might have offered to help him throughout his life, but perhaps the other brother didn't want his brother's help. Now that the more well off brother is gone, the surviving brother cannot say no to what his brother left him.
