What a Week continued

I mentioned that last week we had a storm come through that took out my televisions and shook the house so that our water was brown. After running it a while it cleared up. Well, we replaced one television. We could only get it to pick up public broadcasting channels. I went to my home computer and realized my cable modem wasn't working. So my husband went under the house to check the splitter which had burst, and he checked the box mounted on the wall outside, which had a few wires loose. The next day I called the cable company. They said someone would be out and one of us would have to be home. That was going to be tricky as I don't drive anymore and we would have to close the shop to be there. However, another storm came in so we didn't expect to see them that day, Friday by the way. When we got home my husband went under the house and replaced the splitter. We picked up a few more channels but they were extremely fuzzy. The cable company doesn't come out on the weekends so we figured we would have to wait till Monday. Well, around 8 pm they called and came out. They had to do repairs and the pole across the street, replaced my modem and the cable converter box. Woohoo, we now had channels that we could watch, all of the ones we were supposed to have. Being late I didn't try to go online though. The next morning I tried going online. One of the lights on the modem wasn't on so I couldn't connect. I called the cable tech people and they said it was the ethernet cord that connects the modem and PC. I went and bought one. Still did the same thing so I called them back. They said it has to be the ethernet card inside the computer because it won't even recognize the modem. I asked them, since this had come through the cable service about compensation. See, years ago there was an incident with the power company, straight 220 shot through our home. The power company replaced the equipment that was destroyed. The cable company said, you can't prove anything. Truth is, I actually could but is it worth the headache. In the meantime, my computer is at a friends and he is checking it out to see if it is the ethernet card or something else. Hoping it's something easy as everything else worked still. Well, we had both overlooked something. When I went to take a shower Saturday I noticed that around the faucet and the area where the stopper on an old tub is, was black. Lightning had also run up the water line. On the opposing wall of the faucet, behind it, is the wall to my kitchen. The microwave and washing machine are plugged into a special strip in the wall outlet. The strip and separated and was black inside. The microwave and washer are fine thankfully. The fact of the matter is we are blessed to still have a home and our lives! Sunday we found the tree that was struck and it sits over the water line. So apparently there were two strikes, one at the water line and one at the cable. They aren't anywhere near one another by the way. So, we wait and see, will my computer be repairable? And we say a prayer, thankful that I have my home, my pets, my husband and I are alive. And we think about how we could have been taking a shower when it happened.
