http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/20/cat-thief-dusty-california_n_880311.html Jean adopted Dusty from the Humane Society in San Mateo CA near San Francisco. In the years since the adoption, Dusty has become the local, authentic "Cat Burglar". Dusty steals gloves, towels, shoes & seem to have a real passion for ladies swimsuits. As a matter of fact, he's stolen the next door neighbor's bikini twice!!! The local police seem to find this amusing as they have failed to make an arrest leaving Dusty free to take his nightly booty!! In my opinion, I think Jean should be required to keep Dusty under house arrest until he has been broken of his obsession!!! What would you do if your cat became an authentic cat burglar???

I would definitely confine the cat to the house until the habit was broken or keep it inside permanently if need be. Who knows when a neighbor might put out poison for the poor thing? People do some sick and evil things and they think animals do things on purpose when it's usually just reaction to something they've experienced. I would keep Dusty confined. That woman should protect her cat instead of letting him annoy the neighbors because someone is going to get fed up and do something sick.

I think cats should be kept inside ALL the time. Dusty lives in an largely populated area where there are TONS of cars & he could easily get run over; or as you pointed out, somebody could do MUCH worse!!! I live in the country & I don't let my furbabies out!!! My dogs stay outside simply because they are large dogs & BOTH prefer to be outside. They are miserable inside where they can't run & chase each other!!! Still, they are in a fenced in yard & seem to have NO desire to go out of the fence!!! Knowing of Dusty's passion for stealing, Jean should be doing MORE to protect him.from himself if not others!!!

Yes, some mean people out there. My friend lives about 30 miles from me out in the country... 3 of his dogs got poisoned, but since they couldn't prove who did it they couldn't do anything about it. They have their property fenced now so the dogs will be safe. That wouldn't stop a cat though. They keep their cat inside.

I think this is the same one that I saw on TV. That is so cute and funny. I wonder who taught that cat to do that, or if the cat just thought of it all by himself..lol.

Experts say Dusty's predatory instincts have gone astray, leaving him hunting for people's stuff. My guess would be that Dusty was abused before Jean adopted him. Maybe he needs a Cat Whisperer to help fix his problem!!! Just had another thought...WHY are neighbors leaving their gloves, towels, shoes & bikinis out to where Dusty can pilfer them??? I didn't think anybody left their stuff outside anymore due to human thieves!!!

My cats didn't have to steal anything to be under house arrest. Only one goes out and that's because she drives us CRAZY crying and she never leaves the yard.

My 2 guys have NEVER had their feet on the ground unless it was before I adopted them; so, they have absolutely NO idea what outside even is!!! They are 4 years old & I've had them both since they were 6 weeks old. One keep eyeballing the door when I'm going out or coming in. I don't think he wants out. I think he just wants to irritate my dogs!!!

Saw this Dusty in a news report yesterday. Cats always have their own reasons for doing things. We just haven't figured out a way to get them to tell us why they do what they do. The mystery would be gone then, wouldn't it?

First I guess I would register him online as a bikini thief and warn all the ladies in the neighborhood to keep their swimsuits under lock and key...I would be afraid that he might escape my house arrest..or gain my trust for a while. Then..I would buy some cheap bikinis and spray them with that stuff that is supposed to keep cats away from certain places you don't want them...lol..and soak the bikinis in it..LOL..leave them laying in certain places where the cat could think he was going to steal them..LOL.
