Natural depression help?

I often think I'm mildly depressed, my mother and sister have both been diagnosed with major depression and have taken a variety of medications for it. Personally I am scared to take medications and I have never felt like I was severely depressed - I can still go to work and do my hobbies and things, but I just feel sad much of the time. I know that exercise and eating healthy are supposed to be good natural cures for depression...have you guys found anything else that works without medication?

if it's mild, avoiding medication, at least to begin with, is wise. take lots of exercise, and have a healthy diet. plenty of time outside in the daylight. for some people, that is enough to manage the disorder, and keep the brain chemicals in balance.

Good tips, I definitely feel better when I exercise a lot, it's a challenge now with the heat but worth it! :)

Talk to someone. Whether it be a therapist, family member, or even simply writing a journal, talking about it will help a great deal. It helps to relieve the burden of the sadness as well as rationalize your feelings. Why do I feel like this? What is the source? How can I stop it? Stuff like that. Hope you feel better. Make sure you get the help you need if it worsens. Take care.

Thanks for the encouragement and the ideas, I definitely need to get back to journaling, it always helps me relax!

Depression in life is what the result of lack of faith in God. Medication is not the solution. After all what you take still the problem is there. So solution at all. Do you believe God? For me, base on my experience if God is not in my heart, I don't where i could do now. But try spiritual thing in your life. Try JESUS IN YOUR LIFE. Try to pray hard . . . i want to share to you of what i did during when times of sorrow and deep depression. I will lack my room, i pray to God heartily as if I talk to a friend or someone behind me. I cried to Him, i'll Him all I want, my bad feelings, shout for him to cry for help. And suddenly i fell his comfort. I relieve when i do this in times of depression. I search also any spiritual comforting articles to comfort me. Believe me in doing this i relieve from my bad feelings. No medication can solve our bad feeling only God can comfort us through our prayer to Him. Try this! --I am going to be straight out bold with you! You don't need medications! Heck you don't even have to be depressed. What you need is a GOOD dose of GOD and a GOOD FRIEND. I don't know your religion/faith background. But I know when I found God in my life my world turned in a instant. Just like you I was diagnosed with a clinical depression. But a good friend of mine invited me to a local church and HALLEUJAH depression went away! My advice is too go to a local bible based church and seek healing there cause with GOD all things are possible. && if you need a friend. Well here I AM! :) Well I don't want to get all religious with you. But I know it is the 100% percent cure. Guaranteed!
