For months I was anxious about having a discussion concerning puberty and adolescence with my 11 year old grandson who lives with me. We spent the day yesterday dealing with the matters. I wrote an article on Hub Pages with the same title as my discussion question here. Perhaps you would benefit from reading it if you are facing such a talk with your child.

It is the best thing you can do, teach them yourself instead of leaving it to friends and internet.
I often go to watchtower.org when I search for material for something, and I did a search with "young people ask" and got 158 results with great articles about what can help our young ones so that they can avoid getting hurt and can build up a good life.
Really worth a try as I know many kids like these articles! They are published in books so you might get them from someone near you.
Have a great day..

I too never had "that talk" from my parents or grand parents. I learned everything i know from the internet and from my friends. And of course, you are right. Internet and friends are not so reliable sources and they can suely mislead you. May be it would be a better way to ask your grandson to read articles on puberty on the internet, articles that you have read yourself and checked out that they are surely what you want your grandson to now. Then if he has any questions further he can approach you. Hope this idea would be helpful...

I read lots of things, both on the net and from the library. I ended up using a series of recorded messages from James Dobson as the springboard into our discussions.
