For a player playing his first match, Praveen Kumar did quite a decent job in this test match. He took three wickets in the first innings, before he was banned from bowling for the rest of the innings as he had trodded on the danger zone three times. He came back strongly in the second innings to take another three wickets so far. I think for his pace, his swing and control was the key to success and he did it pretty well. He could be a good weapon in the seaming conditions in England after this series. Cheers! Ram

There was a perception that PK will not be a good bowler in tests just because of his pace. This performance proves that its wrong to judge a bowler on the basis of his limited overs performance. The red ball that Kookaburra ,Duke or SG swings a lot more than white ball.Apart from Zak he is the only bowler in India presently who can swing the ball both ways consistently.I completely agree that PK should get the chance in England.PK did well in Australia too by getting Gilly out twice in two finals, i think it was wrong not to give him chance in tests earlier.

I agree and actually I was one of the doubters of PK. It is good to see that he proved me wrong at least in his debut match. Now it would be important for him to sustain this kind of performance as we move on. Cheers! Ram

Yes he has to work hard to live up-to expectations. One thing which goes in his favor is that he bowls the orthodox swing bowling which is rare these days.I am mentioning about the ball which looks to be an out-swinger but deviates off the seam to turn into an in swinger. Its very difficult to pick for a batsman, with playing more tests PK will learn ,bowling along with Zak in tests will be a great help.

oh, so this was his debut in test cricket! well he was playing in Indian tam for long time and finally got chance in tests. He bowled well, hope that he will use the swing and bounce in WI very well in coming matches also. It was a nice performance from an Indian quick bowler and helped India to achieve the victory.

Yes, he is almost like a veteran in the team now. After three IPLs and a lot of ODIs and T20s he has finally got his test call up. Of course, he was good to start off with and we need to see if he can be consistent now. Cheers! Ram

Praveen Kumar has had some good times in Australia and afterwards also. His guile with the ball would help him a lot, especially in the conditions in England.

I think he can really be an asset in England. It would be interesting to see his performance in England. But before that we need to see how he performs in the rest of this series. Cheers! Ram

Once again Praveen Kumar proved that he is the best swing bowler available to Indian team now. He really enjoyed the conditions at West Indies and took six wickets in his debut test itself. It will give him more confidence in the coming series too. But the problem is he has to be consistent.

Yes, I agree that his real test would be consistency. We will have to see how he goes on in the rest of the series. If he continues to do well then he could be an asset in England. Cheers! Ram

Dear Ram, In modern day cricket swing bowling is a dying art. And I believe any one who can swing the ball will be successful in any for of cricket, especially Test cricket. It was definitely a good debut for Praveen Kumar. It was sad that he was banned from bowling, because he stepped on the danger area when he was bowling. But I am sure that this problem can be solved if he works with his bowling coach. He will surely be a weapon in the England conditions... Share your views... Balu

Actually contrary to your point, I would say that swing has become one of the main weapon in the Test world these days. Ever since the development of Zaheer Khan and his reverse swings, India has reached the top of the pile. Similarly, the late success of the English team has as much to do with the swing of Anderson and Sidebottom as it has to do with the spin on Swann. So I actually think the last 5 years have seen an up-swing in the fortunes of swing bowling. Cheers! Ram
