sneezing happens when irritants enter the nostrils and "tickle" our nose. this happens almost everytime whenever we are exposed to dust and other allergens. but how come, given we are exposed to the same irritants while awake, we don't sneeze while we are sleeping?
i had a theory in mind. but i hope i could get an answer or any idea from my fellow mylotters.

My sneezes wake me up at night. I have allergies and apparently, I live in a area where there are high concentrations of things that trigger it. Very dusty, and lots of pollen. I have to take allergy medicine before I go to bed, and it helps with the pollen, but it can't overcome the dust. I have my windows open since I have no air conditioning. Leaving them closed would trap the dust, and make it very hot and humid in the apartment.

Hi murkie,
Hmm, I think you can sneeze while you are sleeping.
I have actually sneezed a few times while sleeping, and it woke me up.
