Is it safe to buy items in eBay?

I am an internet surfer an certified shopper, well if it's fit with my mood and budget. But I've come across this eBay site. Is it safe to buy items here? I mean, for example if you want to buy products like lotion, creams, medicines. Are they authentic and safe?

That's interesting! For some reason My Lot froze for a moment and the text I typed in disappeared. I typed it in again and it appears that my entry has appeared twice. Now I have added another entry just to explain that, I wish that wouldn't happen on My Lot. Andrew

That's OK Andrew! You explained everything so well. Yes, you are right about everything. Ebay is a site for bargains and good stuffs, but because it comes from individuals some of them are genuine and some of them are dishonest. Well, we can never really tell. I just have to do my own research and background checking for the sellers. Thanks for the words. Appreciated!

I have bought all sorts of things like that from eBay, and they have all been 100% genuine when I got hold of them. With creams, medical ones at least, there is usually a foil cover that you need to pierce before you use the product, and it is easy to be sure whether this has been tampered with or not. I wouldn't buy any prescription medication on there, as you just don't know how it came to be on the website in the first place, it could well have been an illegal product. But usually, if eBay have allowed it to be listed for sale, it is alright.

That's a good news Gloria. Thanks for enlightening me today. So they're all OK in short? I want to buy some creams there coz they appear to be more cheaper than it's usual price in the store. And yet, I have to buy them on top sellers they say. Thanks again for your words. I am going online shopping now. LOL :)

Hello Dear Heaven! I think you will get varied responses on this topic here! Personally for me e bay is big 'NO' as I had very bad experience with this site. I had two bad experiences because of which I have practically stopped visiting the site even. In first incident I ordered for a set o coins and in spite of sending my DD I never received any coins from the seller. When contacted the sellrgave me a lame excuse that the address was not traceable. So in spite of giving again a new address I have not received any thing from them. In next incident I have ordered for a Gem stone and when I wanted a certificate authenticating it, the seller said that the stone is something different from what published or displayed and they wanted a huge amount which was more than the cost of the stone to provide me the certificate of the stone which I was not interested in. Thus in both the cases I suffered! Well,as I have seen many members on this site have pretty good experience on this site.I think this thing varies from country to country. However while purchasing things like cosmetics and medicines one has to be very careful as these products are very hard to detect if there is any thing wrong with them. So better to purchase these products from authorised stores as they are the products having direct impact on your health! Thanks for the topic I liked participating in it!

Geez. I just purchased an item there the last week and said to be coming this week. Maybe I have to observe it and check it when it arrives. And yes, you're right about the liquid items that could easily be tampered with so I won't risk anything for that even if it's cheap. Thanks for the words then. Have a nice day!

I have purchase things from eBay,but i never bought lotion and medicine their.for example i buy like little garrets stuff for my computer,an toys for my son. When buying stuff from eBay,you must check their profile to see their ratings and if they are a top seller on eBay. But i would not advice people to buy medicine, online because it can be tampered with i don't that would be good. But i buy my wedding band from eBay , and other stuff from top rated seller and i always get my items.

Now you said I must check the ratings of the seller so I will do it the next time tash! I never thought about that really. That makes me dumb. Well, that was my first time. Thanks for the words Tash :)

Hi,I buy on eBay for years.A few time I have to return things I had bought there but I never had bad experience with sellers because they earn money there and they care to have 100% rate from buyers. In such case they send new article or refund money. My advice,go-shop-pay by PayPal and enjoy.Time delivery depends on how much money you want to spend for shipping.eBay is safe for me. Regards,

Yes your right! I wonder why they sell it a little cheaper? That's why I am asking coz Imma lil hesitant about purchasing some items there. But mostly, they say it's safe so I will give it a try. But for liquid items like creams and lotions, maybe not coz they're so easy to be tampered with. Thanks Gloria!

I think it's perfectly safe although you do have to do your research. I buy items from ebay all the time and I've never had any problems personally. There is one goldern rule that I always stick to and that is I never purchase anything from anyone on ebay that does not have a one hundred per cent positive feedback rating. I think this is important as it shows that the ebay member is a good seller and customers have had nothing but good results from that seller. You should always make sure that you read the feedback in relation to any seller you intend on making a purchase from. In relation to the items that you are referring to i.e. lotion, creams, medicines etc the same rule applies. Carry out good research and give positive feedback if you have had a positive experience in relation to that seller. Overall ebay is a good shopping website and you can definitely pick up a lot of good bargains there. I wish you luck. Andrew

I've used ebay to purchase many things and have never had any real problems. When it comes to products such as you are speaking of though, I don't know if I would purchase them from a source I didn't know. There are many sellers on ebay and there is no way of knowing whether those products, especially medicines, are legitimate or even safe. I would tend to want to buy them from retail outlets or legitimate pharmacies instead of individuals. I think ebay is perfectly fine for hard goods but I would be wary about purchasing anything like personal care products or medications of any kind.

Ebay reputation is one of the most important things to look at because it contains everything said by people who have transacted with a seller, I also tend to buy more from Power Sellers, not that I am saying the rest are dishonest, it's just that this sellers are already experienced especially when you are buying internationally. If you are new to ebay, try experimenting first by purchasing on Ebay from your country( if you have one), this would reduce confusion issues because of language barriers, currency conversions and shipping costs, plus you might not like to wait for a long time for the item to arrive, you can however go to any ebay site once you gain reputation and experience, paypal is the best payment option since they have buyer protection, I do not buy products that I would apply to my body, mostly only coins and collectibles, good luck

Whenever you buy something from ebay or even the internet for that matter, you've got to know exactly who the product is coming from. If you're buying on ebay, look at the seller's profile and you can see their rating and the feedback that they've gotten from other people that have bought from them. Just do your research before you jump in and buy something. Many of the sellers there are honest, then there are those few who are not so honest and can rip people off. I've been using ebay for years and I've never run into any major problems. You just have to make sure that you're buying something from a reputable seller.

I think it's safe. I always buy things on ebay and I only didn't received my products 2 times. I usually buy lotions and creams from Victoria's Secret and they always were authentics. I also buy a lot of make up, like foundations, blush and mascaras (specially shiseido, dior and lancome). I always stayed satisfied with the products.

I've bought quite a few things from eBay, jewelry and home accessories mostly. I haven't had many problems other than a vase getting chipped in the mail because the sender didn't pack it properly. But he replaced it and gave me free shipping. And as the above poster said, its best to check the ratings and feedback as some people will try to scam you. As for potions and such, I don't think that would be a good idea since it could have easily been opened. But if its from a reputable user who specializes in those items, I think that would be safe. Just make sure you check the feedback.

I purchased more than ten times through ebay and never faced any problem with safety. The site is secure, but the problem with online shopping is that some times the product doesn't meet our expectations.

I don't know about lotions and creams but I have had great experiences with Ebay. I've bought some artwork and a concert DVD for my ex. I can honestly say that Ebay is my best shopping buddy for hard to find items.

You have to go with the motto "let the buyer beware" when it comes to ebay. I have had some very good experiences purchasing on ebay and some very bad ones. I collect costume jewelry and I love grab bags. My only experiences have been the purchase of jewelry grab bags. In some cases, I got great stuff at great prices. In other cases, I got junk. Ebay claims that they offer buyer protections but I found that it is my word against the sellers word. I only bought from sellers who had very high ratings and in some cases were so-called power sellers. I do not know how these sellers got such high ratings and I have come to distrust the ratings. I would not recommend buying lotions or creams on ebay. As others have said, you do not know what you might be getting. But furthermore, you have to add on the cost of handling and shipping. Can you not buy these products at stores in your own area? I will continue to shop ebay and buy when I have the opportunity. But I am only willing to pay so much for fear that i might get junk for my money. I feel like I am taking a chance when I buy on ebay. It is a shame to feel this way because I really enjoyed ebay at first.

I think that shopping online is safe nowadays. As for the products that you'd like to buy online, it is best to do a research for the newly product so you can get a lot of feedback and options. There are different reviews to almost any products right now through the internet. You can also check the seller's description or rating so you can get a little background check.

eBay is really safe! I usually don't buy liquid things, or things that can be added to like lotion, but almost all of my electronics and such come from eBay. You must keep in mind that not all of the eBay sellers are personal, there are some stores on there with a seller page. So the lotions and creams may actually be authentic and straight from the maker, or they may not. You can get some really good deals and save a lot of money there though, I'd take a look around if I were you! You might find some gems!

This is a good question, for starters I would never buy medicines online. For instance, I bought a weight loss pill not to long ago and it turned out they were steroids. For all tangible items besides the items you listed, I advise you to buy them if thy are cheaper on ebay. This is what I do.
