The longer I procrastinate

Singapore

Hi friends, I have disappeared for a long time from mylot, about a year in fact. I was expecting and recently gave birth. During my pregnancy, somehow I don't feel like coming into here and participating in discussions, I felt very tired and couldn't seem to come up with new topics. It seems like I'm brain dead or something. I had wanted to become active again but somehow or other, I can't pick up the energy to do so. Today, I decided to log in and see how are the things here and I started to get back the feeling again. I realized that to make a comeback, I have to become very active again and respond to all those who commented on my posts (months back). Well, I have to ride the wave and take advantage of this mood to reply. If I procrastinate, it might take a very long time for me to finish replying. Do you find that procrastinating makes things worse? Sometimes a problem can be solved there and then but when you postpone it, it just snowballed and gets bigger. Any personal experiences to share here?

Hi Sis! Welcome back sis!!! I wonder why you did not join the site for almost a year. I noticed that and if you did not say that you were pregnant I have no idea for what happened to you. Congratulations for your newborn baby!! About the topic you mention above I am very sure it happened to everyone including me myself. Like you said the more we postpone it the biggest and the more complicated it became. That is why I will always try my best to finish early otherwise it will takes time to get in control back.(^^) ~CT~

Hey Hanum, Thanks! I am so glad I still see so many of my friends here, I'm quite worried that many people have disappeared like me. Procrastination is quite a big problem for me because I'm quite lazy but there are just some things which cannot be put off. I hope I can be more diligent and do the things that required to be done.

Hi bluemoonpavilion, welcome back. First of all, I learned a new word today. I had no idea what procrastinate meant until 30 seconds ago. Looked it up and now I'm ready to respond! I guess it happens to a lot of people, the longer you put something off, the harder it is to get it done. But the key is STARTING, and then it all flows freely.

Well, I'm glad to see you got the ball rolling then, happy mylotting to you!!! I just love Mylot becuse I can practise my english and learn a lot in here, not just posting wildly to get paid (I actually got paid only once in 2 years because I read more than I post)

Well, I joined last year and I only reach payout once too! I guess at the end of the day, I view the payout as a bonus/incentive for mylotting but I get more pleasure out of reading and communicating.

Hi marinarovi, You have a positive learning attitude and I admire that I find that I am also forever learning new words and new things here, that is one great thing about mylot. You are right about finding the starting point, it gets the ball rolling.

oh my you have been gone wow welcome back and congrats on the baby. hope you are here for awhile hatley here too.I think once you get going it will be easier to get up steam. I have been procrastinating on getting some blood work done and I really do not know why as at quest labs it is not painful I think its the fasting and dealing with getting something to eat when I come back has me in putting it off mode too. but it must be done before I can see my doctor for my diabetic check up.The thing is with me once I start putting something vital off I just keep doing it. shame on me. I do know better as this is to do with health. So now I have the paperwork but spilled some water into my handbag without noticing it.I found out my check register and my blood work paper were wet.so dried them out but have to tape the blood work paper together . I really should have done this two months ago. I feel horrid about it too.so yes procrastinating does make it worse for me.

Hi Mrs Hatley, Yes, I have certainly been gone for a long long time... Now, I will try to log on as often as I can. So you wet your check register and blood work paper and taping them back took two months? This is so familiar...it is very easy to let little things like this slip us by, it is so simple to do and requires not much effort and yet we can lag off for a long time. Just thinking about all these little pieces of work which I should do and didn't makes me feel ashamed.

Having a baby is one of the most stressful and tiring things (but exciting at the same time) that can ever happen in somebody's life. Sometimes, when we experience something so big, the things that we spent our time doing before seem tiny and just not really significant in the grand scheme of things. I think that you will get back into the rhythm of your old life sooner than you know, once you've got into a routine with your new baby you will be able to spend some spare time here. You are right though, the longer you leave things, the more impossible they become, so you're better getting back into it as soon as you possibly can.

Hi GemmaR, Being a new mother, I was occupied the whole time during the first month of my baby's birth. It seems that he needs to be fed and cleaned up all the time, and I don't have time for anything else. You are right, it was very tiring but I don't feel that much stress back then because everything seems new and interesting. Now that I have gotten more familiar and more or less established a routine, I am really getting back in touch with my life.

First of all, welcome back bluemoonpavilion! Sometimes we came to this stage of our lives wherein we are tired of doing what we usually do. I guess, we just have to take some rest and refrain doing those tasks and when we find that our system have been longing to do it again, well by all means return to it. You are right, sometimes the mood has something to do with it and just take advantage your mood of mylotting again.

junrapmian, Thanks for the welcome I had a really LONG rest, I disappeared for almost a year! There are times when I missed my online friends here whom I have never met and all the good discussions I have read, wishing I could have the energy to participate as before. Now, I am really happy to be back.

Congratulation and welcome back... Yes, procrastinate often makes thing worse... but sometimes it is also good to let thing cool down for a while and things will resolved by itself in time. Especially when we do not know how to solve a problem. I normally would try to approach the problem right away and ask whoever involved on what should I do about it. When we reach a good decision then the problem will be solved right away. However when others involved also do not know what to do, I would leave the problem as it is and instead would find a way to anticipate the worst scenario. often in time the problem resolved on its own...

There is a saying, making a bad decision is better than making no decision. It could be wiser to first examine all the pros and cons first before making up one's mind. Oh, I have drifted a bit from the topic. Actually, you are right, sometimes when I really don't want to do something I have to do, I take a rest, but making a promise to myself to come back to it, like say, half hour later. In that way, I make things easier.

Yes, some problems do need an immediate attention however the decision is. Especially when it is a problem with works and people we works with. However, in some relationship, the problems may take times to resolve.

It all depends on the situation, experience do help in deciding whether we solve a problem now, or wait for the situation to change and then make a different decision.

Hi! Welcome back! Congrats on the baby!!! I recently came back to MyLot as well after being gone 6+ months. I have to admit, I deleted all discussions and started new the day I came back. There was no way I could possible ever catch up and I was afraid as it would be far too overwhelming for me, so I figured...lets just start new! Anyways, I am trying to stay caught up (I don't think I am doing so well..lol). I am glad you are back and hopefully you will get caught up soon. I know how it is with procrastinating...but sometimes you just can't help it.

Hi gdesjardin, Thanks for replying again. I'm hoping to reply back to my old posts as I felt that those are unfinished business and I don't like to leave things undone. But then again, I might get so caught up with replying to my new posts (like what I'm doing now) that I procrastinate going back to the old posts...hmmm...let me think about this...

Hiya bluemoon, Congratulations on having your Baby. You will feel out of sorts at times anyway it´s only about adapting to a new way of life that´s all. Me I don´t have much time to start or research for discussions but I do respond all I can when I can get on here and be free to do what I want for a while anyway. I have just come back off from a long tiring trip a Shopping trip really and it was really hot so I have sat here half silly just staring at the screen for about five minutes and then I have started to get going again. Really I have to go off here in a few minutes that is why I cannot get down to any discussions as I have to keep breaking up the time I have on here quite a lot. But once I do get down to responding no one takes me away from it that easily. Enjoy your Baby and send my love to her or him.xxx

Oh I am the king of procrastination! I've learned that some things work out themselves if you leave it alone. This is applicable to some little problems that happen around me. The problem is, I apply this philosophy to everything. And thus I procrastinate. And once in a while it blows up in my face.

Same here. Procrastinating used to be my thing. And just like you, I also went on a long hiatus from posting here on mylot. I also felt tired of posting anything— though I wasn't pregnant like you were— ..mainly because of the lack of incentive here in mylot. No matter how interesting the responses in my discussions are, I still lacked the energy to reply to any of them. But then, out of the blue, I suddenly felt bad and started replying to them. haha. After replying, I saw interesting discussions in my sortie and I can't help but comment on them^^.

You are describing my feelings too. I don't know why I suddenly just lagged off and stop posting and the longer I'm off from it, the less inclined I felt like starting to post again. Glad that you recovered your energy to post here again.

Glad you are back! Yes depending on what it is I can procrastinate on diving in at certain times and situations. Therefore, the only way for me to have gotten around any form of procrastinating is to not think about the efforts and get it out of the way, so to speak. Take your time, good thing there is no time constraints here. Simply do the best you can and remember to have fun while doing so. Forcing yourself will only cause it to be a chore and that will not be fun and further keep you away. Glad to see you.

Glad to see you too! Sometimes things seem very bad when we imagine them to be so, but when we actually start to work on it, it doesn't seem to be much of a problem after all. We are easily deceived by our own delusions. Well, thanks for the encouragement, this is why I like mylot, it gets me moving when I heard all these positive responses from people like you, thanks!

Why do today, what you can put off to tomorrow? I used to be horrible at procrastinating, but i have learned to break down projects into manageable little bits and it makes me less stressed and infinitely more pleasant to be around. Speaking of procrastinating, I should head back to bed and try to get some sleep...i just know that now matter how i fall asleep my back is going to be one big lump of sore in the morning, and am not looking forward to that.

That's a classic saying, and I sometimes follow that when I need an excuse to be lazy Breaking down the job into manageable bits is a good idea, it is also a good time management method. I feel sorry for your back problem. I know this guy who had a bad back problem too and he need to go for acupuncture quite regularly. Sometimes it can get so bad that he can't even get out of bed.

Well, we are all glad for your comeback. Sometimes you have to put yourself into the situation just to keep you moving. If you opted not to start browsing on mylot or starting this discussion, you wouldn't have responses. I don't hang around on mylot often before. And I don't have the drive to respond or start discussion. But one of my virtual friends, had me stay here longer and now, I'm staying here more or longer than on any social networking site. Again we're glad to have you back! Welcome BACK!

Thanks for the warm welcome! As I read the posts here, I remembered how I felt back then when I was active, there are just so many great people out here, giving encouragement, cheer and positive responses, it's why many people are here for a long time and addicted to it. I guess I wouldn't be as active now as before but I will try to come in more often.
