Retro Games

mega drive - retro console
November 19, 2006 11:04pm CST
I did a search and no results came up, so I think it's okay for me to post this. I want to talk about the good old days of gaming, the days when sonic was the game to have, the days when memory cards did not exist. What games did you use to love playing and what was your favourite gaming system? I grew up with the Nes as my first love (boy did I love playing Mario) then I moved onto the Mega Drive, for such classics as Golden Axe, Streets Of Rage, Sonic.

I started with pong, hours and hours of two lines and a moving dot. It was great. Then came the Atari system. Pacman, DigDug, Tank. Then the Nes with the sports, Mario, Zelda, etc. Wow, those were great. My all time favorite had to be Tecmo Superbowl. Damn, I'm old. I still enjoy the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube(Tony Hawk rules).

Tony Hawk was a great game, but maybe it is not so retro, just yet anyway :D It feels like I am getting old when I talk about the mega drive as retro, it just seems like yesterday it was the ebst thing out.

I grew up with Sega Genesis. The games I remember playing the most were Sonic the Hedgehog, Wonderboy, and Mrs. Packman. Some mornings I would get up for school and my mom would be downstairs in our family room playing Mrs. Packman. I would sit down and play with her and we would be having so much fun that I would miss the bus and she would end up taking me to school. Those were some great memories.

It's the same as Pac Man, she just has a bow on her head and a Cindy Crawford mole on her cheek lol. Just as addicting as her husband!

I liked the original Nintendo. Super Mario Brothers was cool...and the music--haha so funny! I liked Sega for Sonic the Hedgehog. The original Game Boy was the first system I ever owned. The first Christmas it was out I got it. It was soo exciting. I had Mario on there and I would rent games at Blockbuster to try out. I liked Kirby. That was such a fun game!! Gameboy was the first system that I played Final Fantasy on. I realized that I am no good at that game. I miss those game systems.

One of my mates started collecting retro systems and games this year, it is great to actually go back and play on the actual system.

The Atari is before my time, but I have obviously been on Pacman many times before, and that is one addictive game.

Man, I loved Sonic, and Mario. But my Fav had to be Zelda, no game could beat that.

Zelda - Zelda
I have only ever played on Zelda briefly, but I must say it seems like a game I could get into.

Oh yeah! Back to the late 80's and till early 90's. I loved playing these: mario, golden axe, double dragon, golden axe, zelda, commando, sonic, streetfighter and others... I forgot. It's been too long. I'm hoping to find that console again from my attic and relive childhood memories. Somehow playing rom games in the pc is different.

I'd never owned a games console until buying a PS1 a while back, before that I'd had a c64...I never got into the console wars thing! I've only tried most classic games in arcades over the time I was interested..I'm still interested,as I recently bought a DS..

I'm a big fan of the SNES. I like how the graphics have evolved a bit from the NES, but it still has that retro feel. Favourite games would have to be Earthbound and Zelda.

While growing up, I had initally the NES (I was 6 at the time I got it), Game Boy, Atari 2600 (I was real young when I had it. It worked until '94 or '95 I believe). NES to me was the system I got the most games out of as I liked to play games on it like Mario, Zelda, Megaman, Double Dragon, Ninja Gaiden, etc. When the Atari 2600 worked, I played games like Space Invaders, Megamania, Fast Food, Pac Man, Dig Dug, etc. I even owned E.T. but didn't play it much. I believe that system and games were given to me as a gift almost 20 years ago but I'm not sure when I got it. I later played Sega playing Sonic and one Castlevania game. Those systems are good no question about it.

I started out with a sinclair Spectrum 48k, had this for a good few years before moving on to the Spectrum +3, those were the days, there were some great classic games from the era like Skool daze, Dizzy, Jet set willy, Everyones a wally, Match day. People should really try playing some of these old classics because it shows you dont need top notch Graphics and sound to make a good game, Biggest mistake I made was throwing away my entire collection (400+) of games and the machine itself cos some of the games collect a nice price on ebay now!!
