How to increase traffic to my blog or websites?

I have worked on online writing a bit and now I want to start off with my own blogs. I am quite confident about quality content, I know I can deliver that. What I am not sure about is is that enough for my blog to attract traffic? I have very basic idea about SEO optimization and that knowledge I will put into my content. But I hear about those other techniques of building traffic such as backlink building, link exchange and so on. I am not familiar with those. Frankly I don't think those means are fair either, but if I do not do these my blog will suffer in this tough competitive market. Please help this new fellow mylotter ladies and gentlemen.

Blog - Blogs, the lifeblood on the Internet in many ways
My best advice is this, is keep at it and keep putting out fresh content every single day. Don't expect too many viewers right away. Even there are some websites that go months or even years, without getting more than a few token visitors each day. It can be frustrating, especially if you watch those numbers and they are not going up. A lot of people give up their blogs or websites or whatever within a few months, due to the frustration they encounter. However just keep plugging away, keep using those SEO techniques, keep using fresh content. You're not going to see results overnight, but eventually more people are going to stumble upon it. Other people are going to spread your website if they liked it through word of mouth. It is really a long term growth in many ways and given all of the websites on the Internet, even moderate growth is encouraging.

Thanks for the advice man. Yes I know that patience is crucial in this case. Being not so patient I am also worried about will I be able to hold on or not. However is there any other activity other than posting SEO enriched content regularly that you use or have used to build traffic for your blog? If yes then please do share them for a fellow mylotter(and perhaps a future blogger).

I've learned the best way to get you high traffic is from Social Networks but time consuming, Facebook & Twitter are and more...to learn to get backlink, link exchange, SEO etc.. as you've said in your post.
