Web hosting with Paypal

India

Hi friends, I am working towards finalizing some important steps to host my own website. However, for that I will have to purchase the hosting services, for which I intend to pay through PP. However, according to the RBI rules, Indian members are not allowed to purchase services or buy goods online. What at the most we can do is transfer the money directly to our bank accounts - actually this is only what Indian members are allowed to do. So, is there any way out where I can pay for hosting my site. Is alertpay an option for Indian users? Please help me as I am stuck. Its very frustrating. This is against the small time freelancers, I feel.

Well Alertpay doesn't have nearly as much support and I don't know a webhosting company that has them as an option to pay. I mean there are a ton of them that Support paypal as well Paypal has the support of a large community of people who plan to do things on line where they are going to be making money. I mean the two biggest host are GoDaddy and 1and1. I also use Arvixe which is a smaller company haven't had any problems with them in the nearly 1 year of using them. As for your issue I think you are stuck using another method of payment until RBI rules change as well Paypal and Alertpay would have to follow the same rules. I would say just use a Visa or MasterCard either a Debit Card or a Credit Card to pay for your hosting account. Also another thing is you can always get a prepaid card and use that to pay for the Website hosting account too.

Thanks a lot for your response. It has helped me a lot and given me some new hope. What I want to ask is, is 1 and 1 a foreign company? Foreign means - in my eyes, a non-Indian company? If I get a debit card as you mentioned, will I be able to make international payments? I already have one, then can I use it as you mentioned? Please do respond as I have a thousand questions to get cleared.

1and1 is a foreign company and you may get charged a fee from your bank so I took the liberty to find you some companies that wouldn't be foreign to you. As well I live in the United States so I am not sure about your laws I know I would get a charge for going through a foreign country company for what ever reason. So here are some companies that are located in india. Yes Debit Cards should be able to make international payments as well they can be used in the same way a credit card can be used. So as long as it has the Visa Mastercard or some companies logo that matches what the website says it accepts you should be fine. But here are some web host who are located in India. http://www.znetindia.com/corporate-profile http://www.brainpulse.com/info/contact.php http://www.indiainternets.com/web-designing-company.php http://www.manashosting.com/contact_us.html http://www.ewebguru.com/contactus.php http://www.ibeehosting.com/contact.php http://www.webcomindia.net/contactus.html I have them go to the contact page to make sure they are located in India I would call as I think to avoid any extra charges it is best to host inside your own country also for the simple fact that you are most likely targeting a market that is relative to your area as in your country over having a website hosted in the United States. So I personally would chose a website host that is hosted in India because that is where you live and also a majority of your target market most likely will access from. Even if its not your target market it is your best option for finding a host where you won't run into a language barrier of any kind with an accent or otherwise. Also the timezone split I mean it could take a lot longer for them to get to you than you would like simply because 1and1 is in New York and it took them 24 hours to get my website up. I live on the West Coast of the United States you could be looking at 48hours+ to get your site to where you can see if its up or not because the DNS servers here in the United States would pick up on your website and pass it on to the DNS servers in Asia to do the same and DNS update on a 24hour basis in each times zone depending on where you are. So I would pick one of the host above to avoid any charges.

OMG, that is a great source of information for me. I think, I could have never thought of, what you explained in the later part of your response - the bigger paragraph below the list. That is something completely new to me and it is worth giving a thought to. Thanks for extending such valuable information.

Yes it is very sad that we Indians can not purchase anything online using Paypal. I am aware about the foolish RBI rules. So I can understand your problems. But there is a one way out. There are other online gateways like Alertpay or moneybooker. Create an account on those website. And transfer your Paypal balance into that account. Web hosting company receive all kinds of payments. So it will not be a problem. There is another way. Link your credit card with Paypal and then purchase hosting with your credit card.
