Rode A Cab After A Long Time

My work shift varies every month and now it was moved from 6pm to 3am. Just went to my first shift last night and there were no public vehicles on service. As you might know, Philippines' preferred mode of transportation is jeepneys or "jeep", as we call it. I was expecting that there will still be jeeps passing by as early as 3am but, to my surprise, there were none. Geez, the whole road was almost deserted if it wasn't for some cars and vans passing by every 3 minutes, and of course the cabs. I really wanted to go home then so I called one and got in. When I got home, I was suprised to see the fare: it was almost Php200. Just to give you an idea, Php200 is enough for an allowance for one day for me. Right now it's nearing my work shift again and I'm planning how I can get home without spending that much on a cab because there's no other way to get out of that place unless you're willing to walk at least 1 and a half mile to get to the main road.

I suggest u learn two wheeler driving and buy one vehicle. Otherwise buy a cycle and make it a point to park near the main road while going home and from main road ride bicycle to office.

That's an option. I don't think I'll ever do it, though.

why, do u fear riding alone on the road at that time of the day? Or u do not know driving two wheelers?

You probably would consider buying a motorcycle, it easy to own one nowadays. According a one colleague of mine, his 2 hundred spent on fuel is already good for 1 week ride from las pinas to makati. You just have to consider the dangers though.

200 for 1 week? That's great news for your friend. I should get one of those. Although I still don't have a license so I'll have to fix that one first.

Well that's a lot of savings, then.

Oh my that's too bad that your area don't have public vehicle for 24/7. I use to have odd shifting too. The worst shift i had is 4am to 12noon. I need to be on my way as early as 3am and good thing there's available jeeps in my area 24/7. 200 pesos ?...that's too much, but No,just fair as we know that gas price has risen to the max ugh! Before I can use my car with 500pesos petrol for 5 days work (going to and fro) but since the gas price becomes too high,I prefer to commute. But thinking,if you will be spending 200 a day that's only on way fare, plus your expenses going to work, plus food, how much more you can save for other necessities?

If I included that 200 peso fare, I don't think I'll be able to save at all. I was able to save last month but that's because Php200 is just enough for me for a day. I guess I can push it to Php300 a day but that would consume just about everything in my salary and nothing for emergency expenses , not to mention vices.

Just a couple of suggestions. You could perhaps wait for public transport. How many hours would that be? You could also pool a cab where you could get around and see if there is anyone else going your way.

I asked the cab driver and told me public transport resumes at around 5am. That means I'd have to wait for 2 hours til I can get home. That's ridiculous.
